Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Gold valuer attempts to secure loan by submitting fake gold quality report

A gold valuer of Arvind Sahkari Bank and another man have been arrested by the MIDC police for mortgaging fake gold in the bank and procuring loan. The accused have been identified as gold valuer Pravin Suresh Rotkar (39), a resident of Plot No. 18, Trimurti Nagar and Naresh Pundalik Umale (44), a residnet of Trimurti Nagar, near NIT garden.  Police Sub-Inspector Pravin Kale informed that Rotkar is among the three bank-approved gold valuers, who carries out all the necessary quality checks before granting the loans.  Rotkar was on contract with the bank since last three years and he was getting a share after submitting a report about quality of gold. He owns a Jewerly shop in city. On Wednesday, Rotkar along with Umale arrived in the bank with gold ornametns and applied for loan worth Rs three lakh. Rotkar also submitted his report about quality of gold ornametns on the spot. However, cashier of the bank suspected worthiness of the gold and told senior officials of the bank. T

Suspecting fidelity, man attempt to murder wife

Suspecting fidelity, a man attempt to murder wife by strangling her at their house in Pipala village in Hudkeshwar Police Station area on Monday.  The accused has been identified as Prashant Shriram Waghe, a resident of Pipala village and a Star Bus driver.  According to police, Prashant was suspecting fidelity of his wife Rupali and the couple used to pick up quarrel over petty issues. On Monday, Rupali attended a Haldi prgoramme despite Prashant’s consent. When Rupali arrived home, Prashant picked a quarrel with her and strangled her. However, Rupali managed to escape from his clutches. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. 

Attempt to murder in Kamptee town

Sensation prevailed in Kamptee town after three youngsters armed with sharp-edged weapons and rod entered in the house of a 22-year-old youth and attempt to murder him in New Khalashi Line area of Old Kamptee Police Station on Monday afternoon.  The accused have been identified as Vishal Durwas Khobragade (21), Hirinash alias Chhotu Kishor Tirpude (22) and Ashwin Balwant Bahadure (23), all are residents of New Khalashi Line, Kamptee.  According to police, the incident occurred at 3.30 pm when Harshal Yashvant Borkar (22) was in the house. The accused entered the house and caught hold Harshal who was sitting on the chair and stabbed him with sharp-edged weapon. The accused also hits a iron rod on his head and fled the spot. Trickesters dupe youth of Rs 30,000 at SBI Mahal

Two tricksters duped a youth to the tune of Rs 30,000 at State Bank of India’s (SBI) Mahal branch in Ganeshpeth Police Station area on Monday. “The accused lured the victim of giving share in loot money and took him outside the bank,” said police.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Amit Atram informed that complainant Rupesh Rameshrao Nimbole (34), a resident of Kotwali area had gone to SBI’s Mahal branch to deposit Rs 30,000 cash in his bank account. Two persons reportedly approached Rupesh and befriended with him. The men later told Rupesh that they have stolen Rs two lakh cash from Mumbai and wants to offer a share to him.  Rupesh fall pray to the ‘offer’ and accompanied the accused outside the bank. The tricksters had given a packet stating the packet containing Rs two lakh and took Rs 30,000 from Rupesh. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scam : 23 arrested at Nagpur

Representational picture Jaripatka police have booked 23 persons for misappropriation of funds received under Swachha Bharat Abhiyan for construction of toilets. “The accused received Rs 8,000 each for construction of toilet under the scheme. Despite of constructing toilets, the accused have used to money for other purpose,” the police said.  The accused have been identified as Anand Uddhav Thakre, Kashiram Bawne, Dipak Rangari, Shardaprasad Dhurwe, Ram Yadav, Mahesh Bodole, Mohan Dudhane, Sunanda Sangole, Ashok Yadav, Rekha Gajbhiye, Nirmala Borkar, Ranjit Uikey, Reeta Borkar, Dharmendra Shivbanshi, Dinesh Darwade, Radhesham Kanojiya, Raju Raut, Vikram Yadav, Sadashiv Meshram, Amit Mishra, Gaurishankar Rahangdale, Indira Kumbhm and Gajendra Rahangdale. Alert citizens caught thief red-handed

Alert citizens caught a thief red-handed when the thief was stealing a purse from an open house in Satranjipura area of Lakadganj Police Station.  The accused has been identified as Laik Khan Mukum Khan (35), a resident of Satranjipura.  The accused sneaked in the house of Prashant Dhnyaneshwar Hajare (42) when only his mother was present in the house. But the mother noticed Khan when he was stealing purse which was kept on the bed and she alerted neighbours. Three to four men came to the house and caught hold the thief. Later, the men informed the police about theft attempt. Five-year-old girl died of electrocution

A defective water cooler claimed life of a five-year-old girl at Bhandewadi area of Kalamna Police Station on Saturday. Mother of the girl had gone to job and she along with a brother and sister were in the house, said the police.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) N T Gosawi said that the girl -- Khushi Manoj Kose (5) -- came in contact with the defective water cooler when she opened door of refrigerator for water bottle. She suffered electric shock and collapsed. Her brother and sister informed neighbors about the incident. The neighbors rushed her to hospital and doctors declared her dead. PSI Gosawi informed that the mother had gone to office when the incident occurred. The family was living in rented house. Kalamna police have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation. 

Thunderstorm lashes Nagpur, City plunges into darkeness

Thunderstorm in Nagpur City plunged into darkness after powerful thunderstorm accompanied by winds gusting at over 50 kmph lashed city on Sunday. City police attaches Rs. 40 crore property of Jham builders

Property Cell of Nagpur City Police on Monday seized property of Jham Builders & Developers worth Rs 40 crore for delay in handing over possession of flats booked at its 30 acre township -- Kanhaiya City -- in Mouza Waghdhara, Hingna, area. The land where the builder had floated the scheme with under construction buildings have been attached by cops.  An offence against Hemant Sikandar Jham, Proprietor of Jham Builders and Developers, was registered at Sonegaon Police Station on October 19, 2015 under Sections 420, 406, 409, 34 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 3, 4, 8, 13, 14 of Maharashtra Ownership Flat Act 1963 after the builder delayed giving possession of flats and row houses in Kanhaiya City.  The builder had floated the scheme, Kanhaiya city on 30 acre land in year 2010. Jobless youths attempts to commit suicide at Jhanshi Rani square

Panic gripped at Jhansi Rani Square on Monday evening when a youth armed with Air Gun climbed Rani Jhansi Statue and threatened to commit suicide. However, timely action by a traffic constable stopped the drama.  The youth Sanjay Lalsingh Patel (27), a resident of Ishwarpur, Madhya Pradesh is now cooling heels behind bars at Sitabuldi Police Station. According to eye-witness, the youth climbed the statue at around 4 pm and took out the Air Gun from his bag. Soon after he started shouting be keeping the gun on his head. DCP Nilesh Bharne Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Branch (SB) Nilesh Bharne raided two hookah parlours in Sitabudli and Sadar Police Station area and seized hookah on wee hours of Friday. Sleuths of Crime Branch Unit No. 1 nabbed four youths including a juvenile delinquent for committing more than 15 house-breaking thefts (HBT) in city and district. Six sustain burn injuries after cylinder explosion

Six persons including two children sustained grievous burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Gausiya Colony in Bada Tajbagh area of Sakkardara Police Station on Friday evening.  The injured persons are identified as Shakil Sheikh (35) his wife Sabina (25), their children Sajid (3), Albiya (5) and Shakil’s friends Ashfak Sheikh (40) and Asif Sheikh (32). According to police, Shakil was a scrap dealer and living in rented accommodation of Mujaffar Ali. A wielding gas cylinder was stored by the Shakil in the home. When Sabina was preparing food on LPG stove, the wielding gas cylinder exploded. The six persons sustained burn injuries after the explosion. The injured persons were transported to hospital. A fire tender of Fire and Emergency services of NMC was pressed into service to control the fire. Huge nnumbersof onlookers were gathered at the spot after the incident.

MCOCA invoked against German-Japan gang involved in land-grabbing cases

Dhantoli: 1813 booked for violating traffic rules

Within 15-days of declaring ‘no parking zone’ in Dhantoli, Traffic Police have booked as many as 1,813 vehicle-riders/drivers for violating traffic rules under Motor Vehicles Act. Of these, 1,029 have been booked for parking vehicle in ‘no parking zone’, 685 for violation of one-way traffic rule, and 99 for other violations.  Senior Police Inspector (Traffic) Jayesh Bhandarkar informed that a team of Traffic Police was deployed in Dhantoli to book violators of traffic rules. Local residents are happy with the police action as they have got relief from unauthorised parking, traffic jam, and noise pollution that had become regular features in Dhantoli. Fire in oil godown. Representional picture A major fire broke out at two godown at Control Wadi, Shivaji Nagar, area late on Sunday night. The fire gutted goods worth lakh of rupees.  Such was the intensity of fire that Fire and Emergency Services personnel evacuated homes located behind the godown for safety. The flames were leaping high and could be seen from nearly a kilometre and hence all available fire tenders were requisitioned to help control the blaze.  As per primary information with Fire and Emergency Services of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, a call was received regarding necessity of fire tenders to help douse a big fire. The fire as per information started from a godown stocking edible oil. The presence of inflammable material only helped the flames to spread quite fast and a nearby godown stocked with perfumed too was engulfed by the fire within few minutes. Kalamna Police arrest a bike lifter, recovers 13 stolen motorcycles

Staff of Kalamna Police Station Kalamna Police arrested a motorcycle lifter and recovered 13 stolen motorcycles from his possession. The thief had stolen the motorcycles from Kalamna, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli and Nandanvan Police Station areas. The accused was stealing the bikes after making duplicate key of the motorcycle.  The accused has been identified as Ganesh Diwakar Lende (19), a resident of Pardi, Mahajanpur, Kalamna. Acting on tip-off, the police arrested the accused from Chikali Chowk and recovered a motorcycle. As Lende was not possessing documents of the motorbike, the cops took him to police station for interrogation. One killed, injured injured after protection wall of under construction hospital collapsed

Protection wall collapsed A protection wall in basement area of an under construction building collapsed on Sunday injuring about nine labourers who got trapped under the debris. Immediately after the mishap, fellow laborers showed presence of mind and undertook rescue operations thereby minimising adversity. The rescued labourers were in trauma and rushed to the hospital. Of them, two grievously injured are reportedly battling for life, four others have suffered multiple fractures and four other luckily escaped with minor injuries. The incident exposed violation of labour laws in construction sector as the workers on the jobs were not wearing safety gear although task allotted to them was quite dangerous. New Kamptee police have booked four persons and seized a truck and two tractors for illegally transporting 20 tonnes of manganese from Kanhan mining area.  The accused have been identified as Ashish Muneshwar Somkunwar (25), Vickey Morsingh Bade (20) Roshan Sahadeo Somkuwar, all are residents of Kanhan and Rupesh Pande. Acting on tip-off, the police conducted checking on Kanhan road and discovered the vehicles while transporting manganese without royalty papers. Police declare 18 spots of Dhantoli as ‘no parking zones’ on pilot basis

Acting on the stern directives issued by the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court, the Nagpur Police on Friday notified 18 major overcrowded spots in Dhantoli area as ‘no parking zone’ and permitted only one way vehicular traffic movement in three lanes in an effort to minimise parking chaos and traffic congestion. This decision is on a pilot basis for one month and after assessing the impact and suggestion from citizens, same will be modified.  However, in absence of notified parking space for vehicles coming to Dhantoli area and non availability of a large open space and inability to utilise a major ground like one besides Indian Gymkhana, the proposed move of Traffic Police is likely to lead to major inconvenience to citizens.  Most of the lanes and by-lanes of Dhantoli have hospital and healthcare establishments where thousands throng every day. Woman books for stealing a purse

Sitabuldi police have booked a woman for stealing a purse of a woman at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop on Friday. According to police, Alka Pravin Kuril (28), a resident of Milan square, Khaparkheda boarded in a wrong bus at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop at 12.20 pm and immediately deboarded leaving a bag in the bus. Grabbing the opprtunity, accused Ashadevi Mukesh Kaithwas (28), a resident of Rohna Road, Walni, Saoner removed a purse containing valuables worth Rs 1.20 lakh from Alka’s bag. When Alka checked the bag she realised that the purse has been stolen from the bag. She immedietely raised an alarm and alerted the passengers and Ashadevi was caught as the purse discovered in her bag. The police have booked the acccused under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code.

Tricksters dupes a bank customer of Rs 18,000

Another case of tricksters duping bank customer in bank premises reported in city. This time the bank is Bank of India’s (BOI) Wardhaman Nagar branch in Lakadganj area and the tricksters duped the bank customer to the tune of Rs 18,000.  The police said, victim Rohandas Ajitdas Banpela (20), a resident of Plot No 213, Jaidurga Nagar, Pardi had gone to the bank to credit Rs 18,000 cash. The tricksters approached Rohandas and befriended with him. During interaction, the accused showed a packet and told him that the packet containing cash worth lakhs of rupees. The accused had given the packet to Rohandas and took Rs 18,000 from him and fled the spot. When Rohandas opened the packet, he finds only papers in the packet. He informed the police about the incident and lodged a complaint. The police have registered the case under Sections 406 and 506 of IPC. Woman accused in murder of hubby surrenders at Bajaj Nagar Police Station

The woman, accused in murder case of her husband, surrendered at Bajaj Nagar Police Station on Friday.   The deceased husband was Nitin Ramesh Nayar (27), a resident of Baitul, Madhya Pradesh while name of the accused wife is Swati Nitin Nayar (25), a resident of Kerala.  The woman allegedly strangled her husband to death and concocted a story of accidental death. The crime was came to fore after brother of the deceased approach the police and lodged a complaint against the woman. Jaripatka Police have solved house-breaking theft worth Rs 10.19 lakh and arrested two youths from Yashodhara Nagar area. The accused had stolen the cash from house of Mangalgiri Chandrashekhar Bhupatidas (57) at DG-1, Amar Vihar Colony, Kamptee Road.  The accused have been identified as Faizal alias Rinku Jamil Sheikh (28), a resident of Vajpayee Nagar and Iqbal Abdul alias Akhsar Abdul Khalil (38), a resident of Uppalwadi area of Yashodhara Nagar.  The accused committed the theft between May 6 and 23 when Bhupatidas had gone to United States to meet her daughter. Two bike-borne robbers robbed a Petrol Pump manager of cash worth Rs 4.60 lakh near Kapsi over-bridge on Friday night. The incident reported under Kalamna Police Station area. The accused attacked the manager and also snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone so that he could not inform anyone about the robbery immediately. The cops have launched hunt for the accused but not yet made any headway.  Victim Ratnakar Yadavrao Jhumale (37), a resident of Asuli village, Kamptee was a manager at a Petrol Pump on Kalamna-Kamptee road. He had kept the cash in a bag on Friday at 8.30 pm and embarked on a motorcycle to deposit the cash to the Pump owner. Two intercepted Jhumale near Kapsi Over-bridge and pushed the motorcycle cruising at speed of 60 km/hour. Jhumale lost control on the bike and fell on the road. The robbers caught hold Jhumale and thrashed him mercilessly and threatened him.  The robbers took possession of Jhumale’s mobile phone, motorcycle and the bag containing cash

Youth attempt to murder stepmother

A youth attempt to murder stepmother over property issue in Jaripatka area on Friday. The victim is Pramila Manohar Patil (45), a resident of Plot No. 15, Sushila lay-out while accused has been identified as Ravi Manohar Patil (30), a resident of Indora Model Town.  The police said, Ravi encroached upon land plot of Sushila at Nazool lay-out. When Pramila asked Ravi to remove the encroachment, the accused attacked her with iron road. Pramila sustained grievous injuries in the attack and admitted at hospital. The Jaripatka police have registered the case under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code. 

Cops book a man for extortion

Sitabuldi Police have booked a man on extortion charges. The accused -- Munna Yadav -- posed him a journalist and demanded money from Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Sandip Namdeo Kshirsagar.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) S. B. Danade informed that the ACF Kshirsagar had received a call on mobile phone on Friday. During conversation, the accused introduced himself as a journalist and asked money for the newspaper. When Khirsagar refused to do so, the accused abused him and threatened him. Kshirsagar lodged a complaint at Sitabuldi Police Station and submitted call recordings to the police. The cops have booked the accused under Sections 385, 294, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
