Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. DGP’s missive to all transferred cops to join new post in 48hrs or lose salary

Many officers who were transferred from their posting during general transfers 2013, had somehow evaded to join the new posting and were trying to stay at the present location. “Monthly salary of these officers will be held up, if they do not report at their new postings,” said the DGP. By Dheeraj Fartode A fast-track court on Thursday awarded death sentence to two dreaded criminals after holding them guilty of committing rape and murder of a 19-year old girl at Lonara village of Kalmeshwar taluka in 2005. District Judge V P Ingle convicted Rakesh Manohar Kamble (31), a resident of Babulkheda, Ajni and Amarshingh Kishansingh Thakur (30), a resident of Bajrang Nagar, Babulkheda and awarded death sentence after finding them guilty of rape and murder of Kanchan Shyamrao Meshram, a resident of Lonara in full public view on wee hours of December 18, 2005. Waiter murders customer over refusal to pay bill

By Dheeraj Fartode A fight over payment of liquor bill claimed the life of a man as the angry waiter stabbed the former after his refusal. The incident was reported from village Paradsinga in jurisdiction of Katol police station and police said it occurred on Thursday. Cops have arrested accused Amir Ibrahim Pathan (24), a resident of Digras village, on charges of murdering Hari Upasrao Kolhe (44), a resident of Digras (B) village. According to police, Hari and his friends Chakradhar Madhukar Rithe and Namdeo Pote took liquor at the bar. They left the Bar without paying the bills to which the Manager objected and an argument ensued. Amir who had served them intervened and forced the men for bill amount. A scuffle broke out between Hari and Amir and later hit out at Hari with a wooden plank. Hari sustained grievous head injuries in the attack and died on the spot. By Dheeraj Fartode Cloth material worth lakhs was gutted in a fire at one of the shop at Handloom Market in Gandhibag on Sunday evening. The flames were noticed by guard at M/s Himani Sarees at 5 pm. The owner had recently made alterations in the two storeyed building and created partitions to make it a five storeyed structures. The market sources said owing to marriage season, a huge stock was kept in the shop. As the flames were not billowing out the fire brigade was informed. Six tenders were directed to the spot. Maharashtra Police awaits governments nod for minor shuffle in top ranks

By Dheeraj Fartode Democratic Front government is deliberating on major changes in the top echelons of Maharashtra Police, that includes filling-up of vacancies by way of promotions from Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to Director General of Police (DGP). Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) has cleared the promotion list and same is at Mantralay awaiting clearance from coalition partners, said the top officials. The ball would be set rolling as and when Mumbai’s Commissioner of Police, Dr. Satyapal Singh, who belongs to 1980 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) is elevated. By Dheeraj Fartode A housewife committed suicide after a minor tiff with husband who had expressed his displeasure over making andakari. Police identified the woman as Deepika Nimje (23), a resident of Vijay Nagar. She has a 6-months old child and she hanged herself at her house under the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station on Saturday morning. Deepika crept out of bedroom where her husband, Sanjay, and son were asleep. On Friday night, Deepika had cooked andakari and Sanjay ticked of the former as he did not like its taste. Deepika who was known for her shot temperament got angry on hearing the comments and a heated exchange of words occurred between the couple. Police added that the fight between the husband-wife continued till they retired to bed for night. In the three rooms house, the couple along with their son were sleeping the bedroom. Major trains on Howrah-Mumbai-Howrah came to standstill on Friday evening for two hours.  By Dheeraj Fartode Train movement on buisy Howrah-Mumbai-Howrah route was thrown out of gear after wire of over head equipment (OHE) broke down due to shot circuit between Tumsar-Tirodi section on Friday night. Six superfast trains were detained at respective stations following the incident. An OHE, which is used to transmit electrical energy to trains at a distance from the energy supply point, got damaged between Tumsar-Tirodi section following a short circuit at 7.45 pm on Friday. 12859 Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali express was running with its high speed when the incident occurred.
