Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham assured that law would not spare anyone By Dheeraj Fartode City Police is all set to approach the Supreme Court against the recent ruling of the High Court in ‘Dabba’ trading scam case.  The High Court has questioned the legality of FIR lodged against the alleged scamsters and also held in some cases that no prima-facie evidence was available against the accused persons, thereby taking steam out of much-hyped ‘Dabba’ trade case. “We will challenge the verdict after studying the judgement copy in detail,” said Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham.  Dr K Venkatesham, Commissioner of police, Nagpur Interacting with reporters as part of Diwali Milan programme on Friday, the Commissioner of Police said that the officials were waiting for the judgement copy. “After studying the judgement, the police will challenge the judgement with new observations,” said Dr Venkatesham.  It may be mentioned that the High Court had held that Police and

Proud to have changed people’s perception about Nagpur Police

INTERVIEW By Dheeraj Fartode Sense of pride of his 17-month tenure as Commissioner of Police is visible in the eyes of Shardaprasad Yadav when he says, “I have changed perception in people’s mind that police cannot not ‘touch’ criminals. This change in perception has led us to win the confidence of citizens and establish police-people connect.”  This observation of the city’s top cop who is nearing the end of his tenure and is about to proceed on promotion to Mumbai, makes an altogether different sense in Nagpur’s special context. There were times when the city enjoyed a dubious distinction that top cops did not want to have even short tenures here, and perhaps for justifiable reasons, as some of them used to state. In the case of Shardaprasad Yadav, things have been altogether different. Despite his absence from the posting for personal reasons for some time last year, he has earned for the Police force a reputation that it is no longer a pas

Did Nagpur top brass messed up Ambekar’s arrest ?

The notorious gangster is still eluding his arrest as cops declared imposition of MCOCA first instead of nabbing him, giving sufficient time to goon to go into hiding  By Dheeraj Fartode  In their bid to send home message of cracking down on the gangsters did city police bosses slip-up at most crucial moment and ended-up sending across a tip that enabled Santosh Ambekar to escape dragnet spread out for him? It seems top officers jumped the gun and gave established procedures a go-by instead of first arresting Ambekar under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Nagpur CP Sharda Prasad Yadav Alarmed by this announcement, the goon just vanished, leaving Nagpur police bosses red faced. The strategy of city police bosses of going public to announce booking of Ambekar instead of first arresting him, appeared to have backfired. The strategy of the top officials in especially Ambekar case proved costlier for the city police. Special teams of Crime Branch have now

By Dheeraj Fartode THE Union Cabinet’s decision that empowers police to book juveniles (between 16-18 yrs age) under Indian Penal Code should come as a big deterrence for such offenders who were committing serious crimes but were getting away with no law to punish them. Every year more than 400 juveniles were booked for crimes like murder, rape, robberies, dacoities in city limits. Juvenile offenders Data revealed that juveniles committed 35 murders while 32 were booked for attempt to murders. More shocking is the fact that 26 juveniles are facing charges of rape in the city. These figures are clear indicators of the brutality the juvenile delinquents indulge in but still evade punishment. Juveniles are on the forefront in thefts too. As per the statistics, total 100 robber

State Police in introspection mode as ACB action nets high number of PSIs

Sub-Inspector is crucial for investigations in field units and even Probationary PSIs are falling prey to corruption has shaken the police ranks By Dheeraj Fartode For State Police it's a matter of worry as the system's backbone, the Sub-Inspector are increasing falling prey to corruption. In recent time, more numbers of officers of rank of Sub-Inspector, the most important in field force, have been netted by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). More shocking, even probationary PSIs who are yet to learn basic of policing were trapped by ACB exposing the rot that has set in the State police department. No wonder, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was livid during the review of law and order in his home town, Nagpur the other day. Incidentally, Fadnavis holds the Home Portfolio and asked probing questions to top police brass of Nagpur Police Commissionerate, it was reliably learnt. The high attrition at PSI level also reflects on police force which is already reeling
