Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. After taking over reins of his office, Bodkhe visited Police Control Room and asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Control Room, to compile the data of every phone call received from citizens including crime spot or accident spot, time and type of the information.
During Holi, the Joint Commissioner of Police had done analysis of data for seven days and had deployed police bandobast accordingly. This analysis helped the cops to avert major crimes and citizens enjoyed a peaceful Holi in Nagpur. Now, Bodkhe has taken up the task of analysing phone call data for last three months and it will be used for appropriate deployment of the force in city limits.
As per the information, cops are analysing information under various heads -- accident, suicide bid, domestic violence, brawl, major fire, house-breaking, theft, unclaimed vehicle, street quarrel, chain snatching, purse snatching, hit-and-run, traffic jam, and person found unconscious etc.
CP Bodkhe claimed that final report of the analysis would come out in a week after which beat marshals and patrolling vans would be deployed accordingly. Accident-prone spots also will be analysed and changes in roads and traffic police deployment will be effected, he said.
