Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Election action: Excise crackdown yields illicit liquor worth Rs. 7.39 lakh in district

Transportation of illicit liquor increased before election By Dheeraj Fartode After model code of conduct was enforced in the State for forthcoming elections, State Excise Department geared-up its machinery to crackdown on illegal transportation of liquor. The department have conducted 71 raids in last two weeks and seized liquor worth Rs 7.39 lakh in the district alone. Last year in the month of August, the department had registered 127 cases and seized property worth Rs 8.12 lakh. However, after enforcement of model code of conduct the department have seized around same amount of valuables/liquor in just 15-days time. This indicates the role of liquor in the polls. Assembly elections: 29 nominations rejected after scrutiny

By Dheeraj Fartode As many as 29 nomination forms were rejected at end of the scrutiny conducted by the Returning Officers in the district for the assembly elections. Nomination of Shiv Sena candidate from North Nagpur seat was rejected by the Election Officer for lack of proper documentation. In City, five nominations were rejected from North Nagpur seat including Sena candidate Jitendra alias Lala Manohar Sasane. Official sources informed that the nomination of the Sena candidate was rejected due to insufficient documents. Other candidates whose nominations forms were rejected are Jyoti Janbandhi, Abhishek Shambharkar, Mohanlal Chavan and Umesh Mendhe. In East Nagpur assembly seat four nomination were rejected. BJP bigwigs file nominations for assembly elections

By Dheeraj Fartode Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Devendra Fadnavis on Friday filed nomination papers for South-West Assembly seat. Seating BJP MLAs including Krishna Khopde, Sudhakar Deshmukh, Vikas Kumbhare filed their nomination papers along with Fadnavis. Senior corporator Dr Milind Mane who has been given ticket from North Nagpur also submitted his nomination. Jolt to Wasankar as EoW files chargesheet within 60 days

By Dheeraj Fartode Economic Offences Wing (EoW) of Crime Branch on Wednesday filed chargesheet against Prashant Wasankar and others booked for duping hundreds of investors in the special court. The chargesheet running into 4,025-pages against Wasankar Wealth Management Ltd and its directors has revealed the modus operandi of firm and how innocent investors were taken for a ride and offences under Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act were committed by all the accused. The chargesheet has been filed against three accused -- Chairman of Wasankar Wealth Management Ltd Prashant Jaideo Wasankar; his brother-in-law and Director Abhijit Jayant Choudhary and Director Vinay Wasankar-- arrested by EoW which is probing the case.  The accused have been chargesheeted under various sections of the IPC and also under certain provisions of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act.
