Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Hostage drama stuns Nagpur

Family members of a builder were held hostage by a youth using a toy gun in their Pipala residence for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, on Friday. It took a two-hour long, well-thought, filmy-style operation by the police to rescue the family members of builder Raju Vaidya. The shocking day-light incident has sent shockwaves across the city. The accused was identified as Jitendra Tulshiram Bisen (19), a resident of Hudkeshwar Khurd. Jitendra was in the catering business. He was unemployed after enforcement of the lockdown. His younger brother is a history-sheeter, a police official said. As Bisen was facing financial crunch, he decided to commit the robbery in the bungalow belonging to Vaidya in Pipala area. Youth killed by younger brother

A youth was strangled to death by his younger brother at Kotwal Burdi village in Katol tehsil on Friday night, Kalmeshwar police said. The deceased was identified as Chandrashekhar Ramaji Badakhal (34), a resident of Kotwal Burdi village. He was working in an explosive company. As Chandrashekhar was unmarried, he used to pick quarrels with parents under the influence of liquor and abuse them. Chandrashekhar came home on Friday, at 7.30 pm and started hurling abuses at parents and younger brother Ganesh (32). Angry over Chandrashekhar’s behaviour, Ganesh pushed him and strangled his throat with a T-shirt. Staff of Kalmeshwar police led by PI Ashif Raja Sheikh rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. Youth killed after hit by train

An engineer, out for a night walk with his friends, was killed after being hit by a train in Narendra Nagar on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Vinay Singh alias Rahul Rajesh Chauhan (25), a resident of Navnath Society. According to police, Rahul had completed engineering and was looking for a job. Every night he used to go for evening walks near the Narendra Nagar flyover with his friends. On Tuesday night also all three went for a walk. While crossing the railway track from Over-bridge, both his friends stopped to attend nature's call. But Rahul went ahead. Meanwhile, a train came in a great speed from another side. Seeing the train approaching, both the friends alerted Rahul but he did not hear their voice and continued walking. He was hit by the train and died on the spot. Boom lift at Metro site crushes beggar to death

A truck-mounted boom lift engaged for MahaMetro work crushed a beggar to death near Santra Market on Wednesday night. The accident occured when the operator of the machine was parking it on the road side, said police officials. According to police, the truck-mounted boom lift was tasked for painting the metro tracks. The operator reversed the machine and moved ahead at 7.30 pm. Due to the negligent driving of the operator, the man who was sleeping on the roadside came under the wheels of the machine. He died instantaneously on the spot as he was crushed under the large wheels of the truck. A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot following the accident. RPF seizes brown sugar worth Rs 2.14 lakh from Maharashtra Express

Brown sugar worth Rs 2.14 lakh was seized by Railway Protection Force (RPF) from 01039 Maharashtra Express. However, the smuggler managed to escape. A press release of RPF informed that Sub-Inspector Sitaram Jaat, constables Navin Kumar Singh and Ajay Singh were conducting checks in the train on Tuesday. They spotted an abandoned bag in DL-1 coach of the train. As no passenger claimed their ownership of the bag, the RPF staff took the bag to the Railway Station and opened it to see small packets of brown sugar. The bag was handed-over to Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. A case under provisions of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered by GRP. Action was done under the guidance of Divisional Security Commandant Ashutosh Pandey. “We are trying to identify the smuggler by checking CCTV footage of the platform,” said an official of GRP.

Mucormycosis : District admin to conduct sugar level testings of 1.42 lakh Covid-19 patients

As Mucormycosis is emerged as the new challenge, the District administration has also pulled up socks to tackle the fungal infection. As a precautionary measure, testing of Sugar levels of Covid-19 patients will be done across the district and 1.5 lakh Sugar testing kits have been purchased for the massive exercise. District Collector Ravindra Thakre informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the testing of Covid-19 patients would be conducted by health workers across the city from next week. Cured patients of Covid-19 will be tested by the health workers during the drive, he said and added that training for the drive has already begun. When a family of 20-members was in slumber at their house in Hudkeshwar, the thieves smoothly entered the house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash collectivelly worth Rs 20 lakh, Hudkeshwar police said. Woman, going to hospital for treatment, killed in accident

A woman was killed when a speeding four-wheeler hit her scooter on Wardha road in Beltarodi police station area. The woman was going to National Cancer Institute for treatment of blood cancer when the accident occured on Tuesday at 10 am, police officials said. The deceased was identified as Smita Kiran Sangatrao (57), a resident of Flat No. F-1, Nakshatra Apartment, Shilpa Society, Manish Nagar. Smita was living alone as her husband died a few years ago and the couple did not have children. Smita was diagnosed with blood cancer last year. Since then, she used to go NCI for treatment. A seven-month-old baby was mercilessly beaten by her mother while fighting with her mother-in-law at her house in Pandharabodi area. City police in action mode after 3 pm : CP

As the State government has eased lockdown restrictions and allowed non-essential shops to open, the City police have also changed their plan of action. The police will intensify their presence on the streets from 3 pm. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar told ‘The Hitavada’ that loitering would not be allowed on the streets after 3 pm. A total of 66 nakabandi points will be in place across the city to check unnecessary movement of citizens. Nagpur Rural police held a farmer from Umred tehsil for making a hoax call to Mumbai’s Mantralaya building on Sunday afternoon. The farmer made the phone call to highlight his plea of not getting compensation for his agricultural land acquired by Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) in 1997. A police official informed that the phone call was received at the Disaster Management Control Room set up in the Mantralaya building to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic at 12.40 pm. A man was robbed of a goat of Rs 10,000/- by three robbers after stabbing him with a sharp-edged weapon in Vitabhatti area of Kalamna police station. The accused have been identified as Chetan Thakur (21), a resident of Aajri-Majri; Shoeb Khan (21) and an unidentified accomplice of the accused. Thakur is a history-sheeter, police said. Unit No. 2 of the Crime Branch arrested two persons for allegedly printing fake Indian currency after seeing some tutorials on YouTube. The accused have managed to circulate fake currency of Rs two lakh in the market so far, a top rank police official said. The accused have been identified as Nilesh Raju Kadbe (24), a resident of Samta Nagar and Maruf Khan alias Rafique Khan (24), a resident of Taj Nagar, Teka. According to police, Kadbe is a notorious thief and offences are registered against him at Gittikhadan and Rana Pratap Nagar police stations. A delivery boy of Swiggy, an on-line food ordering and delivery platform, was arrested by Jaripatka police for molesting a young girl. Shockingly, he committed the crime within a week after joining the company. The accused was identified as Sooraj Sudhir Malode (27), a resident of LIG, Nara Rod, Hudco Colony, Jaripatka. Notorious goon Amarinder Singh Bagga was arrested at Nanded by a team of Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) after a five-month hunt. Sakkarada police busted a two-member gang involved in stealing silencers of expensive cars in the city. The police have recovered 11 car silencers worth Rs 5.50 lakh from their possession. The accused have been identified as Sheikh Nisar Sheikh Qadir (31) and Sheikh Iqbal Sheikh Zaheer Qureshi (28), both residents of Sakkardara area. DG rebukes RPF personnel for “embarrassing” procedural lapses

Peeved at failure of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in following proper procedure while detaining or releasing a person, Director General, RPF, Arun Kumar has issued a 14-point charter to the force. He has mentioned all such instances that caused great embarrassment to the administration and in process affected the image of RPF. The DG, RPF issued the charter taking cognisance of letters sent by two State Governments about work culture of RPF, sources told ‘The Hitavada’. In the circular, Kumar has stated that some instances had come to the notice where it was found that officers did not adopt proper procedure in releasing persons detained after examination. Unapproved herbicide tolerant (HT) cotton seeds worth Rs 85 lakhs were seized by Kelwad police. The police have booked the truck driver and owner of the transport company for smuggling. The accused have been identified as truck driver Surendra Parvatsingh Dhakad (25), a resident of Ashok Nagar, MP and RGT transport company owner Mahaveer Pal, a resident of Panchawati, Indore, MP. Man kills one-year-old son, said he wanted a daughter

In a shocking incident, a man killed his one-year-old son at Wakodi village near Khapa because he wished to have a daughter. The accused father is now cooling heels behind the bars at Khapa police station. The accused was identified as Bhajan Metab Kawreti (40), a resident of Wakodi village. According to police, Bajan married Mathura (32) in 2016. Bhajan and Mathura are daily wage workers. They had their first child in 2017 while their second child last year. City police undertake special drive to trace 3,600 absconders

Tackling street crime is now top most priority in urban places for police force as such incidents immediately get highlighted and have possible effect on law and order situation. As Nagpur city too is witnessing the same trend, the city police has undertaken combing operations to arrest about 3,600 absconders. A majority of these offenders, the police statistics reveal, are involved in body offences. A special drive is launched to nab these criminals and the police have succeeded in arresting 25 absconders on the very first day of the drive. A 15-year-old boy was killed when his motorcycle got punctured and rammed into a road divider on Ambazari bypass on Friday. Sleuths of Railway Protection Force (RPF) nabbed a man who carried Rs 60 lakh cash in a bag at Nagpur Railway Station on Saturday. The cash was handed-over to the Income Tax (I-T) department for further probe. According to Divisional Security Commandant (DSC) RPF, Central Railway, Ashutosh Pandey, the man, identified as Shabbir Husain Hasan Ali Karanjawala (55), a resident of House No. 858, Itwari Road, Bengali Panja, deboarded from New Delhi- Chennai Grand Trunk Express in the morning hours. He was carrying a large bag with him. When he was passing through the Foot Over Bridge (FoB), RPF Inspector R L Meena, Constables Sikandar Yadav and Kamsingh Thakur grew suspicious at him. A three-member gang of bike lifters was busted by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural police and recovered 14 stolen motorcycles from their possession. The vehicle theft gang was using a ‘master key’ for their operation, police officials said. The prime accused in the case is a 17-year-old boy whose father is a scrap dealer in Kalamna area of Nagpur. He was selling the motorcycles to accused Avinash alias Opan Prabhakar Ughde (24), a resident of Bramhani, Kalmeshwar and Charan Ramdas Nimawat (27), a resident of Ghorad, Kalmeshwar. According to police, the juvenile delinquent acquired ‘master keys’ from the shop of his father. He was using the keys to open the locks of parked motorycles. After taking possession of the bike, he straightway drove to Kalmeshwar where he was selling the bikes to Ughade and Nimawat. The two were purchasing the bikes at Rs 5,000/- from him. All the stolen motorcycles were further sold in Kalmeshwar tehsil by Ughde and Nimawat in the last five months.

Aerial lift of MahaMetro collapsed at Agrasen square

The boom of the work platform of MahaMetro suddenly collapsed and the lift basket crashed to the ground near Agrasen square on Central Avenue on Saturday night. However, no one was injured in the accident, claimed MahaMetro’s PRO, Akhilesh Halwe. According to Halwe, the aerial lift was stationed near the square for painting Metro’s tracks. The machine suddenly disbalanced and the boom of the work platform collapsed crashing into the structures of roadside shops. The shops were badly destroyed in the accident. Halwe said that a crane was sent to settle the aerial lift which is also known as Manlifter. The lift operator and the painter had gone for dinner when the accident occured, he claimed. STATE Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil showered praises on Gadchiroli Police for gunning down 13 dreaded Naxalites during a fierce gun-battle at Paydi-Kotmi forest in Etapalli on Friday. Recalling a strange coincidence, Patil said the elimination of 13 Naxals came on the same day when 15 policemen had attained martyrdom in Gadchiroli 12 years ago. “On May 21, 2009, our 15 policemen were martyred in a Naxal attack. After 12 years, the Gadchiroli police have avenged their deaths and killed 13 Naxals on the same day,” said Patil. LCB of Rural Police busted gang of thieves

Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police busted a five-member gang of thieves involved in thefts in companies. The police have recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 4.56 lakh from their possession. The accused have been identified as Ajay Murlidhar Shebe (23), a resident of Wadoda; Ravi Bonda Prajapati (42), Rakesh Dharmapal Prajapati (25), both residents of Kalamna slums, Kamptee Road; Atik Rafique Khan (29), a resident of Uappalwadi, Kapil Nagar and scrap dealer Ganga Shahu (45), a resident of Kamal Chowk, Pachpaoli, Nagpur. According to police, the gang recently stole transformer, electric motors, and other material from King Rider company on Wadoda-Kuhi road. A case was registered at Kuhi police station in this regard. During investigation, the police identified the accused and arrested them. During interrogation, the accused confessed for committing thefts in two companies. Livestock trader killed in Narkhed

A livestock trader was brutally murdered by four persons and the body was dumped in the well to destroy the crime evidence in the Narkhed police station area. Shubham Baburao Jadhav (25), Vaibhav Satish Jadhav (25), both residents of Khedikaryat; Hemraj Gajanan Babulkar (40) and Umesh Kishanji Rewatkar (30), both residents of Tinkheda, were arrested by Narkhed police for killing Babarao Suryabhan Paripagar (55), a resident of Khamli village in Narkhed tehsil. According to police, Paripagar was a livestock trader and used to visit villages for the trading. On May 13, he came to Khedikaryat village where he met Shubham Jadhav. Their deal was derailed over an amount. Jadhav then called his accomplices and they hatched a conspiracy to kill Paripagar. “They wanted to get hold of the money of Paripagar,” said PI Jaipal Girase. Speeding Innova rams into e-rickshaw, one killed

An e-rickshaw driver was killed after a speeding Innova vehicle rammed into the three-wheeler on Great Nag Road on Monday morning. The car turned turtle on the road divider after the accident. The deceased was identified as Waman Vishnu Parate (59), a resident of Plot No. 255, Kinkhede Layout, Binaki Mangalwari. He leaves behind a wife, two sons and a daughter. In Phoenix Infra scam of Rs two crore, the Economic Offences Wing (EoW) is searching for four fraudsters who went absconding after registration of offence in 2014. A press release of EoW informed that Vijaykumar Manikrao Gautam and Ahmed Abdulrasool Jiwani were arrested for the fraud while Jitesh Naryayan Nashine, a resident of Plot NO. 3517 (a), 97 Jai Hind Society, Sham Nagar, Somalwada; Yogesh Narayan Nashine, Mahesh Narayan Nashine, both residents of Manish Nagar and Chandrashekhar Motiram Deshbhratar, a resident of Plot No. 108, Panchatara Society, Manish Nagar, are absconding in the case. The accused had formed Phoenix Infra International Pvt Ltd company and accepted a large amount of investment from gullible investors. The accused promised huge returns to the investors plots and flats in Wathoda, Pevtha, Salai Godhani, Kaladongri, Khapri, Wakeshwar and Parsodi area.
