Hostage drama stuns Nagpur

Family members of a builder were held hostage by a youth using a toy gun in their Pipala residence for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, on Friday. It took a two-hour long, well-thought, filmy-style operation by the police to rescue the family members of builder Raju Vaidya. The shocking day-light incident has sent shockwaves across the city.
The accused was identified as Jitendra Tulshiram Bisen (19), a resident of Hudkeshwar Khurd. Jitendra was in the catering business. He was unemployed after enforcement of the lockdown. His younger brother is a history-sheeter, a police official said. As Bisen was facing financial crunch, he decided to commit the robbery in the bungalow belonging to Vaidya in Pipala area. He had done a recce of the area and finalised Vaidya family as his target.
At 2 pm on Friday, Bisen barged into the one-storey house with a gun and a sharp-weapon. A total of six persons were present in the house. Vaidya’s mother and two ladies were at ground floor while three persons were at first floor. After entering the house, Bisen locked all the doors from inside. He threatened the women with the gun and sharp-weapon. After hearing screams from the first floor, the family members on the first floor locked themselves in their room. Bisen then picked up mobile phone of a woman and asked her to dial Vaidya. Bisen threatened Vaidya that he would kill his family members and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. Vaidya was shocked after receiving the call. He discussed the issue with a friend and informed the Police Control Room on emergency number 100. The Control Room immediately alerted Hudkeshwar police station. Additional CP (Crime) Sunil Phulari and DCP (Zone IV) Dr. Akshay Shinde immediately rushed to the spot with teams of police stations, Crime Branch and QRT.
Vaidya also arrived at the spot and discussed the matter with senior police officers. The police then drew a plan to trap the man. As per the plan, Vaidya spoke to Bisen on phone. He told him that he was unable to arrange Rs 50 lakh at such a short period of time and assured to give Rs five lakh immediately. As Bisen agreed to accept Rs five lakh cash, Vaidya walked upto the house with the cash. Meanwhile, a police team approached the house from the rear side. The cops in plain clothes jumped the compound wall and climbed upto the first floor. As Bisen signalled Vaidya, he again walked upto the window. When Vaidya was handing over the cash to Bisen, the police team entered the ground floor from the staircase and pounced upon Bisen. His weapons were taken into possession by the cops.
A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot during the police operation. Bisen was bundled in the police jeep and taken to the Hudkeshwar police station. An offence under provision of Indian Penal Code was registered against him.

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha
