Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. DCP Sahu cracks whip against lockdown violators in Zone II

CONCERNED by the regular breach of rules laid down by the administration to contain the spread of coronavirus in the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone II Vinita Sahu cracked a whip against the violators and conducted surprise checking at market places and shops on Tuesday night. Many shops were slapped with fines for not following lockdown guidelines issued by Nagpur Municipal Corporation and State Government. As per the guidelines issued by NMC and State Government for the Unlock phase, all shops should close by 7 pm barring essential services. However, many shop owners are taking the guidelines casually and indulging in running their businesses late in the night. People are also least bothered about the safety measures and visit these shops without following rules of wearing face mask and maintaining social distance. Kalmeshwar firing : 10 goons arrested by LCB of Rural Police within 24 hours

Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police on Tuesday arrested 10 accused persons involved in firing at history-sheeter Ganesh Meshram and his wife at Kalmeshwar. Of them, four arrested for opening fire at Meshram while six were involved in the planning of the crime.  Arrested accused have been identified as Nikhil alias Golu Lalsingh Maliye, a resident of Jaitala; Farookh Jabiulla Khan, a resident of Nagpur; Shovin Arvind Makode, a resident of Kalmeshwar; Himanshu Ravishankar Chandrakar (24), a resident of Gajanan Nagar; Mohd Haidar Parwez Ansari (20), a resident of Bengali Panja; Ankit Ramchandra Dhurwe, a resident of Eklata Nagar; Chandrakant Suresh Shinde (32), a resident of Jaitala; Abhishek Mangesh Giri (19), a resident of Pachpaoli; Ankit Tulshiram Nimje (24), a resident of Pachpaoli; Gaurav Ajay Pilley (22), a resident of Guard Line, Railway Colony.  A police official informed that a few years ago, Meshram was working with Sevak Masram gang. Police empowered to take on gutkha lobby in State

Aiming to curtail the sale-purchase of gutkha and flavoured tobbaco, the State police were directed to independently register criminal offences against those involved in sale and purchase of these banned items. Maharashtra Government had imposed ban on sale of tobacco flavoured items in year 2012 and till now Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) alone was empowered to act against the culprits. But in view of rising use of these chewables among youth, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed Maharashtra police to independently register offences. Police are also directed to ensure implementation of ban on sale of flavoured supari, Kharra, Mawa and pan masala that are harmful for health. Four goons fire at history-sheeter and his wife at Kalmeshwar

PANIC gripped Kalmeshwar town after four assailants attempted to kill a history-sheeter along with his wife by firing shots at them on Monday afternoon. The couple sustained serious bullet injuries and is being treated at Mayo Hospital. Cops suspect involvement of four goons from Nagpur in the attack. Ganesh Meshram (32) sustained bullet injuries in his back and thigh while his wife Priya (28) was shot in the stomach at their rented house in Hudco Colony of Kalmeshwar. A police official said Meshram, a history-sheeter, is a native of Jaitala area of Nagpur. The couple shifted to the rented accommodation in Kalmeshwar with their five-year-old son, last year. Recently, Meshram was booked by Rana Pratap Nagar police for attacking his rival Golu alias Maliye. The investigators are suspecting role of Golu, Sobin Arvind Makode and Farooq Khan in the attack. Thieves break open BoI ATM using gas cutter, flee with Rs 10 lakh cash

Unidentified thieves decamped with Rs 10 lakh cash after breaking open an unguarded Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of Bank of India (BOI) using a gas cutter at Dhapewada village in Kalmeshwar tehsil, said Saoner police.  The police are suspecting involvement of around two-three people in the crime. Police Inspector Ashok Koli of Soner police station said that they received an information about the theft in ATM on Sunday morning.  The crime took place in intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The thieves came at ATM and broke open it by using a gas cutter. As there was no guard at the ATM kiosk at the time of the incident, it was so easy for thieves to committ the crime.  The thieves walked away with Rs 10 lakh cash from the ATM, the police said.  The police have seized Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the spot to ascertain the sequence of events and identify the accused by using CCTV footage. After outbreak of novel coronavirus, Finance Department issued a Government Resolution (GR) on May 4, 2020 in which Para No. 15 stated that no department of State Government will carry out transfers to maintain consistency in measures being taken to contain graph of novel coronavirus. In short a blanket ban was imposed on the yearly transfers that is awaited by rank and file. One day PCR to Mangesh Kadav’s wife

Shiv Sena’s City Chief Mangesh Kadav, who was booked for five cases of extortion and fraud and expelled from the Shiv Sena, is still absconding and yet to be traced by the police.  Meanwhile, Dr. Ruchita Mangesh Kadav (38), a resident of Abhyankar Nagar, was produced in the court by Crime Branch on Tuesday. The court remanded her in police custody for a day. The police are expecting that Mangesh Kadav would surrender before the police after arrest of his wife. First case was registered against Kadav last week for demanding extortion of Rs 25 lakh. The case was registered by Ambazari police for stealing material from the house of Vikram Madhukar Labhe’s bungalow at Puranic Layout in Bharat Nagar.  After that, Sakkarada police registered a case of extortion against Kadav for threatening to kill Devanand Shirke, a builder from Sakkarada, and demanding Rs 20 lakh to him. ACB caught Head Clerk of Deputy Dir (Edu) while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur on Tuesday arrested Head Clerk attached with Deputy Director (Eduction) red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000/-.  The accused clerk was identified as Upendra Sharadchandra Shrivastav (52).  A press release of ACB informed that the complainant is a resident of Antargaon Bujurg village in Korpana tehsil of Chandrapur district and working as peon at Pranjali High School at Nandpa village. The school was unaided when the complainant joined the school. The school received 20 per cent grant from July 1, 2016. As per procedure, the complainant had filled a form and forwarded to the office of Deputy Director (Education) Nagpur after getting approval of Principal in December 2018. When his form was not cleared by the office, the complainant came at Nagpur and requested Shrivastav to expedite the process. Shrivastav demanded Rs 50,000/- for clearing the form.  The complainant immediately approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint. The ACB
