A Village Burnt Overnight: Tears, Loss and Survival in Dhamangaon Blaze

  Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . Republic Day Parade – 2014 Awards Announced Territorial Army (Sikh Li) Adjudged Best Marching Contingent Amongst Services

Republic Day Parade The results of different competitive presentation in the Republic Day Parade – 2014 have been announced by the Ministry of Defence.  Among the Services category, Territorial Army (Sikh LI) has been adjudged the best marching contingent in the Republic Day Parade – 2014. In the category of Para-Military Forces and other auxiliary marching contingents, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) contingent has been adjudged the best contingent.  In the tableaux category, in total 18 tableaux including five from Union Ministries / Departments took part in the Republic Day Parade – 2014, out of which first position has gone to West Bengal Tableau, which depicted the famous Purulia Chhau Dance. TRAI Releases Recommendations on ‘Working Guidelines for Spectrum Trading’

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)   has finalized its recommendations on the ‘Working  Guidelines on Spectrum Trading’. The salient features of the recommendations are given below: ·             Under spectrum trading, only outright transfer of spectrum is permitted, i.e. the ownership of the usage right is transferred to the buyer. Spectrum leasing is  not  permitted at this point of time. ·             Spectrum trading will not alter the original validity period of spectrum assignment. ·             For the present, Spectrum Trading shall be permitted only on a pan-LSA (Licensed Service Area) basis i.e. spectrum cannot be traded for a part of the LSA. ·             The seller and the buyer shall be required...

70% of Diesel, 99.6 % of Petrol consumed by Transport Sector

An All India Study conducted by M/s Nielsen (India) Pvt Ltd for Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of Petroleum Ministry has thrown up interesting data about use of diesel and petrol sold across various states. As per the All India study report submitted to PPAC, 70% of diesel and 99.6% petrol is consumed in the transport sector alone.  Of the total diesel sale, the highest consumption of 28.48 is by cars, utility vehicles (UVs) and 3-wheelers.  It was also revealed that private cars & UVs account for 13.15%, commercial cars & UVs 8.94% and 3-wheelers 6.39% of the diesel sold in the country. In case of Petrol, 99.6% is consumed in the transport sector.  Of this majority consumption of 61.42% is accounted for by Two-Wheelers while cars use 34.33% followed by 3-wheelers at 2.34%.  It was also revealed that in the States of Odisha, Bihar and Rajasthan, petrol consumption by two-wheelers exceeds 70%.  Results of the Surve...
