Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Car turns turtle in overtaking bid, leaves four injured at Mate square

Four youngsters sustained injuries as speeding car they were travelling in hit road-divider, took a 10-feet high jump into air, and turned turtle when overtaking bid by car driver went wrong near Mate Square on Saturday late night. The injured youngsters fled the spot leaving the damaged car behind. According to eye-witnesses, a Hyundai i-20 car (MH-40/KR-9002) was coming from Rana Pratap Nagar Square with speed exceeding 100 km/hr. The driver tried to overtake an Indica car. The driver tried to over-take Indica through a small gap between road-divider and Indica. However, during the risky move, the driver lost balance and hit road-divider. In panic, driver applied brakes immediately. One had frequently heard the famous dialogue in our Bollywood films, “Kanun ke hath bahut lambe hote hain” (criminals can be tracked down from where ever they are hiding). The Maharashtra Police is readying Crime and Criminal Tracking Network system (CCTNS), part of ambitious national criminal network. State has been chosen for implementation of pilot project and same is being supervised by State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) stated its head, Spl. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanjay Verma. Prakash Pohare arrested at Akola

Prakash Pohare arrived in the court. Editor-in-chief of Marathi daily ‘Deshonnati’ Prakash Pohare was arrested by the crime branch of Nagpur Rural police on Tuesday morning from his Akola farmhouse. Cops then produced Pohare before court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kalmeshwar, where the court remanded him to two days police custody. The cops arrived at Kalmeshwar police station around at 2 pm. His close relatives including former MLAs Harshawardhan Deshmukh, Ashok Dhawad also arrived at Kalmeshwar police station. Editor-in-Chief of 'Deshonnati' newspaper Prakash Pohare booked for murder of security supervisor

In a firing incident at the newspaper’s printing unit at Gondkhairi, 19 kms from Nagpur, security supervisor of ‘Deshonnati’ press was killed on Saturday evening. According to police, a security guard fired at the supervisor. Following the incident, as a matter of precaution, cops deployed bandobast at ‘Deshonnati’ group offices. Identified as Rajendra Krishnarao Dupare (47), a resident of Sonba Nagar, the deceased was working as Security Supervisor at ‘Deshonnati’ press. Dupare is survived by wife and three children. The employees of Marathi daily ‘Deshonnati’ were on strike since August 6. Mob lynches goon to death

A mob of slum-dwellers, mostly women, from Vasantrao Naik Nagar slums near Vidarbha Hockey Association Ground, lynched notorious goon Iqbal Shaikh alias Guru with sword-sticks, stones, cricket bats, sticks and wooden posts on the footpath between Maharajbag gate and Patrakar Sahanivas entrance on Amravati Road in Sitabuldi area on Tuesday night. The mob chased the goon, killed him on the main road, dragged his highly mutilated body several feet on to a sidewalk, damaged police vehicles badly and even set on fire one, and then charged towards the Sitabuldi Police Station a few hundred meters away, and clashed with the cops who tried to restrain the onslaught. IN A shocking daylight incident, unidentified goons shot dead Vijay Pandurang Thawkar (36), owner of Thawkar Jewellers, in his shop on mezzanine floor at Shriram Bhavan, Khankhoje Nagar, in Hudkeshwar area on Manewada Road on Saturday. The assailants also attacked Vijay Thawkar’s salesman Prasad Sharadrao Khadekar (20) with a knife, injuring him seriously. After killing Vijay Thawkar and injuring Prasad, the assailants sped away in a Maruti 800 car. Brother of Vice-President of Nationalist Congress Party’s city unit Raman Thawkar, Vijay was a resident of Bhaldharpura. Acting tough against the chain snatchers, the city police on Monday booked Sachin Peshve and five others, involved in 14 incidents of chain snatching in different parts of city, under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Commissioner of Police Dr Ankush Dhanvijay had promised to book the chain snatchers under MCOCA for spreading terror among women and morning walkers and zooming past with their gold chains or Mangalasutra. Central Railway is running a special train on Nagpur-Jabalpur route to clear passengers rush during the festive season. Passenger traffic on Nagpur-Jabalpur sector has seen an impressive growth. Zilla Parishad officials sits over cheques, leaves inter-caste couples in lurch

The casual approach of Social welfare department of Zilla Parishad has created trouble for newly-wed couples who tied nuptial knot against the wishes of their family. The financial assistance of Rs 39 lakh instituted by the Central government for Inter-caste married couples is yet to be given to 78 couples collectively Rs 39 lakh for 2010 by Zilla Parishad. As per the information Union government has sanctioned Rs 50,000 financial assistance for 208 married couples in District. But, administration has not yet distributed the cheques to eligible couples. Validity of 39 cheques collectively Rs 39 lakh has lapsed on September 30 as they were prepared at the very beginning of current fiscal. To promote inter-caste marriages, the award money has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000. When ZP committee members confronted Social Welfare officer about this serious lapse, the official concerned gave evasive reply and claimed that budgetary provision was inadequate. Accor
