Prakash Pohare arrested at Akola

Prakash Pohare arrived in the court.
Editor-in-chief of Marathi daily ‘Deshonnati’ Prakash Pohare was arrested by the crime branch of Nagpur Rural police on Tuesday morning from his Akola farmhouse. Cops then produced Pohare before court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kalmeshwar, where the court remanded him to two days police custody.
The cops arrived at Kalmeshwar police station around at 2 pm. His close relatives including former MLAs Harshawardhan Deshmukh, Ashok Dhawad also arrived at Kalmeshwar police station. Cops then registered a entry of Pohare’s arrest in station diary and took him for medical check-up.
Acting on a specific tip-off, a team of Crime branch led by PI Rajan Pali and PSI Arvind Saraf spotted Pohare at his Barshitakli road farmhouse. The team was chased by some well-wishers of Pohare and cops later resurfaced and surprised them by arresting him.
According to police officers, Pohare was about to leave the place, but the special squad foiled his plan and arrested him around 7.30 am. Cops then took Pohare to Akola Kotwali police station and registered arrest of Pohare and similarly faxed a copy of arrest to Kalmeshwar police station and informed Nagpur SP Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma. Cops produced Pohare before JMFC court at 3.30 pm where Adv Prakash Jaiswal assisted to prosecution and Adv Ansari was defence lawyer.
According to prosecution, Pohare’s custodial interrogation was necessary since they wanted to know how he hired the gunman and circumstances leading to firing and death of one innocent worker. It was a cold-blooded murder, there was a conspiracy and preparation, the prosecution claimed and stated that he had several criminal cases and had assaulted many of his workers in the past as well.
Defence claimed that Pohare was unnecessarily implicated in the case. After a scuffle, there was accidental fire to which Pohare was no way responsible. There was no conspiracy, no intention and Pohare was trying to secure his premises from unauthorised occupants.
Pohare was booked for murder of security supervisor Rajendra Krishnarao Dupare (47), a resident of Sonba Nagar on October 13. Dupare was killed after bullet was fired by the gunman who accompanied Pohare. Kalmeshwar police had registered a case against Pohare, gunman Harikrishna Dwivedi and five others under sections 109, 147, 148, 149 and 302 of Indian Penal Code and 3 read with 25 of Arms Act. Accused gunman Harikrishna Dwivedi was arrested by the police on October 13.

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha
