Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Prostitution racked busted at Ashiyana Bar in city

Sex racket busted SLEUTHS of Local Crime Branch of Nagpur Rural Police busted a prostitution racket at Ashiyana Bar & Restaurant in Khaperkheda area and arrested four persons, including a girl, in this connection on Tuesday evening. Police claimed that the manager of the bar & restaurant was allegedly providing commercial sex workers (CSWs) to customers.  The accused have been identified as bar manager Rajesh Kumar Singh (25), a resident of Nagpur, waiter, Baba alias Mamaji Saraf (55), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, pimp Rauf Khan Ramjan Khan (38), a resident of Mahal, near Ayachit Mandir, and a 28-year-old commercial sex worker. Acting on a tip off, Police Sub-Inspectors Amol Daund and Prashant Bharte went to the bar posing as customers. They contacted Rauf on his cellphone and asked for a girl for their entertainment. Five passangers killed and 18 injured truck and bus collission

Bus accident Notorious Amdi by-pass was witness to yet another gory mishap when on Sunday a Truck and a bus of MSRTC collided, leaving five passengers dead and 18 others injured. The incident police said occurred at 7.30 am when the Bus belonging to  Ramtek Depot was on way to Parsheoni and thereafter would have gone to Kondhali. The impact of the dash was so powerful that the bus was knocked of the road after the Truck ripped through one of its side. The injured are admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) and many of them are nursing their serious injuries and listed as critical, the police have said. The 42-seater bus of Ramtek depot (MH-40/9964) was going to Parsheoni from Ramtek and 35 passengers were seated in the ill fated vehicle when the tragedy cut short the journey. Virugiri at Ram Jhula at Nagpur Two Congress Party workers resorted to ‘Virugiri’ on Monday at Ram Jhula demanding early completion of  work of cable stayed bridge. High drama was witnessed when the two youth climbed atop the central pillar of the bridge near Santra Market RoB. Apathy of government machinery claims 22 lives in 10 months

Apathy of Government machinery about construction of over bridge at Amdi diversion claimed a total of 22 lives and several injuries in the last 10 months.  After the gory mishap at Amdi diversion on Sunday, thousands of villagers gathered at the spot and staged demonstrations to protest against alleged apathy of the Government for not constructing over bridge at Amdi diversion. National Highway was blocked for around 4 hours after the mishap. The villagers had staged demonstration at the same place to press the same demand on April 18, following a road mishap between an overcrowded jeep and truck killing 11 persons and injuring many others. Series of accidents at Amdi diversion began in November, 2011 when  a speeding truck knocked dead a bike-borne couple. A pedestrian was knocked dead by the speeding truck in same month. Highway Police lack Ambulance, cranes to respond to emergency situations

Everyone expects Highway Police to perform well and ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic on highways and provide timely medical aid to injured persons in accidents. However, not many know that State Government itself wants Highway Police to patrol for shorter distances. In fact, State Government provides only 8 litres diesel per day to every traffic aid centre of Highway Police for patrolling though these centres are expected to patrol an area of over 500 kms. In addition to this, Highway Police are not equipped with Ambulance and cranes. State Highway Police has Thane, Pune, and Nagpur regions with 62 traffic aid posts (TAP). State has 15 National and 291 State Highways with length of 70,747 kms. Every traffic aid centre has duty to reduce and prevent accidents, save life, help injured persons, and also ensure smooth flow of traffic by constant vigil. But, the fact is that Highway Police are unable to cover all accident-prone spots during patrolling. The Government has
