Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. Air Fest held at Headquarters of Maintenance Command at Nagpur

A thrilling display of coordination between the magnificent air warriors and their flying machines was held at at the ‘Air Fest 2022' at its Headquarters Maintenance Command of Indian Air Force in Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur on Saturday. Police seizes 1,555 kg of Ganja, arrest two

Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Nagpur Police seized a whopping 1,555 kg of Ganja (Marijuana) hiding under fertilizer bags in a truck and arrested two persons in this connection. The seizure was made from a truck by the police while acting on a tip-off, police said. The driver and the cleaner of the truck were taken into custody, and a case was registered.  The accused have been identified as driver Someshwarrao alias Bujji Kotipillam (50), a resident of Rahulpallam, tehsil - Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and cleaner Balemananaji alias Nani Paidaykapu Balema (25), a resident of Vaigamyapuram, District - Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.  On Monday night, the police got information that a truck bearing the number (AP-16/AT-7349) had left Orissa with ganja. No coercive steps for feeding stray dogs : Supreme Court

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered that no coercive steps shall be taken as pursuance of the recent order of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court (HC) which prohibited the feeding of stray dogs at public places in Nagpur. It also stayed HC’s observation that persons who feed stray dogs must adopt them.  The NMC has been directed to ensure and take steps for the general public to feed stray dogs at designated locations. Although it has been directed by the Supreme Court that no coercive action as per the HC order which stipulates imposition of fine is to be taken by the NMC. The NMC has been directed to designate special spots to enable the general public to feed the stray dogs. Furthermore, the Court has also issued the direction to the effect that firstly, the general public is to ensure that no nuisance is caused due to public feeding of stray dogs and, secondly, NMC is to deal with the issues of any nuisance of dogs as per laws. Panchayt Samiti clerk booked for pension scam of Rs 1.86 crore

A clerk of Panchayat Samiti Parseoni in Nagpur district, around 40 km from here, was booked by the police for the bogus pension scam of Rs 1.86 crore. The accused woman allegedly created bogus accounts in the name of retired government servants and pocketed theri pension.  The accused was identified as Sarita Chandrashekhar Neware. She is working as junior assistant clerk with Panchayat Samiti Parseoni. The complaint was lodged by Subhash Parasram Jadhav, Block Development Officer, Panchayat Samiti, Parseoni. According to police, Sarita created 17 bogus accounts of retired employees and used bank accounts of other persons to receive the amount. As a result, the bank accounts started receiving pension for these bogus retired employees from the State exchequer. The fraud came to fore in November first week. The case was registered by the police under the provisions of Indian Penal Code. 

4 sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 12 years in fake currency case

Fake currency case Nagpur The Special Court of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) convicted and sentenced four persons to 12 years’ rigours imprisonment in a fake currency case. Gangster Arun Gawli The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court on Monday allowed parole to notorious gangster Arun Gawli without police escort to attend the marriage of his younger son Yogesh. The Division bench of Justice Vinay Joshi and Justice Vrushali Joshi partly allowed the writ petition filed by Gawli after hearing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prison and Superintendent of Central Jail Nagpur. Gawali requested DIG Prisons for grant of emergency parole. The plea was opposed by Mumbai police stating that he was a gangster and possibility of law and order situation being created cannot be ruled out. A man was killed by two history-sheeters in his house who suspected he was a police informer. The sensational murder took place at Takalghat village in MIDC Butibori police station area, police said. The deceased was identified as Sunil Gulab Bhaje (40), a resident of Gangapur Takalghat village. The police arrested accused Amol Dilip Gedam (20) and Vansh Arun Maji, both resident of Gangapur Takalghat village within an hour of the murder. According to police, the accused were indulged in thefts incl uding steel material. Two offences of thefts were registered against him at MIDC Butibori police station last year. On Saturday night, the accused consumed alcohol and barged into the house of Sunil. They attacked Sunil with a wooden rod in front of his wife Babita. Woman dupes of Rs 80,584 through ‘fake’ Patanjali Facebook page

An on-line fraudster duped a city woman of Rs 80,584/- on pretext of allowing her to attend a yoga session of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust in Haridwar. The fraudster used a ‘fake’ Facebook page of the trust to dupe the woman, police said.  According to police, Radhika (55), a resident of Ramdaspeth, clicked on the ‘fake’ page of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust on Facebook on October 26. She filled an on-line form for a yoga session scheduled at Haridwar. Radhikar received a confirmation letter in her email. On October 28, she received a phone call from the fraudster who impersonated the executive of the trust. After gaining her trust, the fraudster asked the woman to credit Rs 54,600/- to confirm their booking of three persons including parents. She transferred the amount. Later, he again phoned the woman and asked to transfer Rs 25,984/- for medical check-up. Five-year-old boy killed after house gate falls on him

A five-year-old boy was killed when the gate he was playing with collapsed on him in the limits of Kalamna police. The heart-wrenching incident took place on Saturday evening, Kalamna police said. According to police, Tulsidas Ramchandra Tangale (46) was living in the rented accomodation at Plot No. 114, Nivrutti Nagar, Gujrati Colony, for the past few years. His son Riyash was playing with the gate on Saturday at 4 pm. The heavy gate suddenly collapsed on him. Riyash was trapped under the gate. The family members rescued him. He sustained grievous head injuries in the accident. Profusely bleeding Riyash was taken to the hospital where he breathed his last. A case of accidental death was registered by Kalamna police. In Nagpur, a vehicle is stolen in every 14 hours

Every 14 hours, a vehicle in Nagpur is stolen. Nearly 53 vehicles were stolen every month from the city, according to data of the Nagpur police. The citizens are feeling helpless as their vehicles purchased from hard-earned money are being stolen by the thieves in daylight.   According to data, a total of 530 vehicle thefts took place from January to October this year. Of which, the police detected 207 thefts with a detection rate of 39 per cent. In October, the city reported 61 vehicle theft cases. However, just two cases were detected by the police with a three per cent detection rate. In October last year, a total of 78 vehicles were stolen from the city and the police had solved 13 cases with a detection rate of 17 per cent. In 2021, about 793 vehicles were stolen from Nagpur. Of which, 251 cases (32 per cent) were detected by the police. In 2020, the city recorded 687 vehicle thefts. A 55-year-old man was murdered and the body was thrown in a well near Mokshadham square in Imambada police station limits of Nagpur on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Ramsingh Thakur (55). He was working as a mason. The accused were identified as Raju Burande and Mukesh Ambhore. Both are construction workers, police said. According to police, the accused used to consume alcohol. A quarrel took place between the accused and Ramsingh on Saturday morning. Raju and Mukesh consumed liquor Saturday night and went to the house of Ramsingh. “If stray dogs are not fed, they will become more aggressive” : SC

The Supreme Court of India on Friday considered a petition filed challenging a decision of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court against feeding stray dogs in public spaces. The High Court had issued various directions to the authorities concerning capturing, sheltering and feeding stray dogs. It also had directed that no citizen of Nagpur and areas surrounding it shall feed or make any attempt to feed stray dogs in public places, gardens etc. It also directed the Municipal Commissioner to ensure no such feeding at any place except the own homes of such persons. The HC had also directed the concerned authorities under Section 44 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951 to detain all stray dogs wandering in the public streets. Man arrested for raping 9-year-old daughter

  A man was arrested by Kalmeshwar police for repeatedly raping his minor girl, police said. According to police, the accused (30) is a welder and native of Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He was living with wife and nine-year-old daughter in a rented accomodation in MIDC area of Kalmeshwar town. He was sexually exploiting the daughter for past two months. The girl slept with the father on Monday night. He sexually exploited the girl in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The heinous crime came to the fore of her mother. Goons robbed petrol pump at gun-point

A petrol pump in Kanhan town was robbed by two goons at gunpoint in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The robbers threatened the fuel station employees with a Desi Katta and robbed them of Rs 8,500/-, police said, adding that a hunt was launched to arrest the robbers.  The accused have been identified as Rohit Yadav (22), a resident of Kanhan and his accomplice. According to police, the the accused came on a Honda Unicorn motorcycle at 12.45 am. Rohit asked pump employee Sanket Shende to fill petrol of Rs 200 in the motorcycle. 104 SP/DCP rank police officers transferred in Maharashtra

Rahul Maknikar, SP, ACB, Nagpur  The Maharashtra government on Monday transferred 104 police officers of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Superintendent of Police (SP). Of which, 11 officers transferred to Nagpur city and district. Rahul Maknikar, Addl Superintendent of Police (Addl SP) of Nagpur Rural, is the new Superintendent of Police of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Napgur. The post was vacant after the transfer of Rakesh Ola to Ahmednagar as SP. Maknikar, a State Police Service (SPS) officer, has wide experience of policing in different capacities. He worked as Addl SP Nagpur rural for a year. Earlier, Maknikar was posted as DCP in Nagpur city police. 332 teenage girls kidnapped from city in 2021

Nagpur ranked 6th in kidnapping and abduction of minors (aged below 18) cases among the 19 metropolitan cities of India in 2021. About 410 cases of kidnapping and abduction of minors were registered in Nagpur last year, of which 332 victims were girls, revealed data of National Crime Record Bureau. The cases of kidnapping and abduction of minors decreased in Nagpur in the past three years. However, the number is still high with the population ratio. As against 536 kidnapping cases in 2019, the cases dipped to 334 in 2020 and again rose to 415 in 2021. According to NCRB, Nagpur recorded 16.6 kidnapping rate while Mumbai saw 8.6 kidnapping rate and Pune recorded 11.3 kidnapping rate. The kidnapping rate describes the number of kidnapping cases reported to law enforcement agencies per lakh population. On average, five women go missing from city each day

AROUND five women, on an average, go missing from Nagpur city everyday, revealed a data of released by Nagpur Police as they managed to trace a big number of the missing women. In the first 10 months of 2022, Nagpur Police have succeeded in tracing out a total of 1,242 out of 1,382 missing women. Area-wise numbers of missing people released by City Police showed that in Hudkeshwar Police Station jurisdiction total 98 women went missing. Of them, 87 have been traced by the police while 11 are still missing. Kalamna police recorded 94 missing cases and are yet to trace the location of eight women. HC directs Union and State govts to file their affidavits in PIL about permanent Regional Bench of National Consumer Commission at Nagpur

Nagpur High Court The Division of Justice Sunil Shukre and Justice G A Sanap at the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court directed the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Maharashtra Government to file their affidavits in response to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) about permanent Regional Bench of National Consumer Commission at Nagpur. The PIL was filed by the NGO Citizens Forum for Equality through its President Madhukar Ganpat Kukde and Consumer Court Advocates Association, Nagpur through its President Adv. Anuradha Deshpande.
