Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Traffic cops swap zonal teams during special drive to punish errant riders

With an aim to rigorously implement special drive against errant riders, City Traffic Police has adopted a new mechanism of swapping police personnel among its eight zones. The idea is to increase effectiveness of concentrated action and special drives and instill discipline among rule violators. A police officer said that lower rung cops used to develop friendly relations with locals including autorickshaw drivers due to working in one particular area for longer period. Such repeat offenders used have ‘connections’ within police rank and politicians. These persons are nuisance for the police staff as they always call their bosses whenever one tried to penalise them for violation of rules. Married woman elopes with boyfriend in front of hubby

A married woman eloped with her boyfriend as her husband was left watching in disbelief at Ganeshpeth Bus Terminus on Sunday. The hapless husband then went rushing to police station and sought help. The police have booked accused Amol Dongre (25), a resident of Indira Nagar, Ajni for abduction.  According to police, Shivram Santaram Rajak (25), a resident of Sundara village of Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) married with Indira Nagar resident 21-year-old girl on April 24. Shivram and his wife were staying at the house of in-laws from May 14. Retired Army soldier killed over land dispute

A retired soldier of Indian Army was murdered by five persons including another retired Army soldier over land dispute at Bori Ghiwari village in Aroli Police Station area. Decomposed body of Bhaurao Meshram (46), a resident of Jhingabai Takali, Nagpur was found in a farm at Bori Ghiwari village where government had given him agriculture land.  Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola BEHIND every happy daughter is a truly amazing parent who fights all odds for her. Goon lands in jail for filming video on Tik Tok in police van

DCP Zone V Harssh Poddar  adressing a press conference.  Yashodhara Nagar police have arrested a goon for filming a video on ‘Tik Tok’ app in a police van and also making it viral on the social media including WhatsApp. The accused Mobin Ahmed Samsuddin Ahmed (30) is a leader of Chama gang involved in cattle smuggling. Adresssing a press conferece, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone V Harssh Poddar said that Ahmed, a resident of Tipu Sultan Chowk, Yashodhara Nagar, had filmed the video on February 4, 2019 and posted on the social media. Ahmed can be seen stepping out of a police van as the song ‘Miya Bhai’, a popular track among Indian Tik Tokers, played in the background. Drunkard car driver knocks three motorcycle and crashed into road divider at Laxmi Nagar square

This is the car which knocks three motorcycles on late Friday night. Passersby at Laxmi Nagar chowk on late Friday night witnessed horror when a drunken man lost control over the wheel of his speeding car and knocked down three motorcycles leaving four persons injured seriously. Later, the car rammed into a road divider, injuring the driver also very seriously.  The Maruti Swift car (MH-31/DV-7856) first rammed into a motorcycle with two-riders in front of Hotel Ashoka on Laxmi Nagar Main Road (West High Court Road) and later knocked down two different bikes at Laxmi Nagar Square before crashing into a road divider at great speed. API Datta Ingale of Bajaj Nagar Police Station informed that the car driver was identified as P K Ravindra Rao (55), a resident of Plot No. 27/3, Ujjwal Nagar, Somalwada. Teenager falls off train, killed

A teenage boy, who was travelling sitting on the footboard of Yeshvantpur Express, was killed on Thursday as he hit an electric poll post he fell off the train.  The deceased was identified as Lavkushsingh Ramsamojsingh Chavan (18), a resident of Dharmar Baharia, District - Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.  According to police, Chavan was working as labour at Bangalore. He was travelling to his village after more than six months. He along with cousin Kuldipsingh Chhedilalsingh Chavan (18) boarded in the general coach of the train on Wednesday night. As there was huge rush in the train, he was travelling sitting on the footboard of the train. He lost his balance and fell off the train near Narkhed and hit an electric poll. He sustained grievous head injuries in the mishap and breathed his last on the spot. Narkhed police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on. 

Crime Branch arrest Guddu Bhatia in Bobby Sardar murder case

Crime Branch have arrested an automobile dealer, Guddu Bhatia (35), in the murder case of transporter Bhupendra Singh Manjit Singh Makan alias Bobby Sardar (46). “The Innova car in which Bobby Sardar was strangled to death was provided by Bhatia,” said police.  A police officer informed that role of Bhatia came to fore during interrogation of four arrested accused. Bhatia was member of the rival gang that killed Bobby Sardar. As Little Sardar, Manjeet Wade and others decided to eliminate Bobby, Bhatia also joined them and assured to arrange the vehicle. The Innova car was registered in the name of Bhatia. Accused Hani Chandok took the vehicle from his garage on April 25, he told the police.  CCTV image of the Innova car led to cracking of the murder case. After getting the images, the police had launched searches for a white coloured Innova car with a sentence written in Punjabi language and found it with Bhatia. Robbers on looting spree : Five chain-snatchings within 24 hours

Gangs of chain snatchers had a field day in city as they robbed five women of gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 2.5 lakh. A rising number of chain-snatching cases has left citizens worried as a total of seven chain-snatching were reported with 72 hours and cops literally failed to identify the accused.  Two chain-snatching were reported in Sitabuldi and Mankapur area on Saturday.  An old-aged woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 35,000 by a bike-borne robber near Alankar Talkies square in Sitabuldi area on Saturday night.  Archana Biharilal Shrivastava (64) was heading towards Jhanshi Rani Square from Alankar Talkies square on her moped at 7.45 pm. She did not notice two motorcycle-borne miscreants following her and within seconds, her gold chain was yanked away from her and they sped away. 3 murders within 24 hours rock city

Three persons were murdered in separate incidents in less than 24 hours in the city. In the first incident, a juvenile brutally murdered his friend when he refused to share the food with him. The murder took place near Telephone Exchange square in Lakadganj Police Station area in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Shubham Bhimrao Wasnik (22), a resident of Sweeper Colony.  A police officer informed that Shubham and Pankaj (name changed) were close friends. Shubham took Pankaj to his place on Friday at 11 pm where Shubham had dinner. Pankaj got angered when Shubham did not shared food with him. After killing of 15 jawans of Quick Response Team of Gadchiroli Police by banned Communist Party of India (maoist) operatives in Jambhul Kheda, top brass of state police has ordered an inquiry to ascertain reasons so that such incidents would not repeated in the future.  Statements of more than 15 police personnel were recorded so far and the inquiry would be completed within next two-days, informed Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Special Operations Rajinder Singh on Saturday.  Interacting with mediapersons at Nagpur after camping at Gadchiroli for three-days, Rajinder Singh said, “We are trying to ascertain whether the earlier incident of arson on the same day of attack was a bait,” he said.  The QRT was moving towards where the 27 vehicles were burnt. Traffic police serves massive 51,475 e-challans to motorists

Traffic Control Branch has recorded violations of traffic norms by 51,475 citizens in a period of three and half months. And among the eight traffic zones, highest violations of 9433 that is almost 18.33 per cent were reported from Sitabuldi Zone that comprises of middle portion of city. With 3,300 installed cameras, City Operation Centre (CoC) is helping police in preparing the e-challans. A team of traffic police constables deployed at the CoC for monitoring footages of major junctions zoom into pictures and zero on the violators. According to statistics of Traffic Control Branch, a total of 38,950 bikers (75.66 per cent) were served e-challans for not wearing helmet while riding the bike, 1,998 persons for crossing the stop line, 956 for triple seat riding, 4,493 four-wheeler drivers for not wearing seat belts, 157 for fancy number plates, 51 for using mobile phone while driving, 59 for wrong side driving, 283 for no parking, 736 for single jumping, 3,511 for over seat driving

ED adjudicating authority confirms attachment of property of fraudster Borkar

Prashant Borkar, a private agent who had swindled Rs. 2.70 crore from Gondegaon branch of UCO, suffered a set back after the adjudicating authority under Prohibition of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) upheld order of Enforcement Directorate (ED) to attach his properties. Borkar had committed the fraud in connivace with top officials of the branch. Sources informed that the fraud came to fore during internal audit of the bank. An offence under Sections 420 and 471 and 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Kanhan Police Station in year 2012 and the then Bank Manager Anand Pardikar (49) and Assistant Manager Shrikant Manohar Joshi (36) were also charged for the crime along with Borkar, a private agent and a resident of Kalamna.  The police had managed to recover Rs 1.30 crore from the accused during preliminary phase of investigation.  Simultaneously, ED had registered Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in year 2016 and undertook probe. After investigating the case
