Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . A teenage boy, who was travelling sitting on the footboard of Yeshvantpur Express, was killed on Thursday as he hit an electric poll post he fell off the train.
The deceased was identified as Lavkushsingh Ramsamojsingh Chavan (18), a resident of Dharmar Baharia, District - Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, Chavan was working as labour at Bangalore. He was travelling to his village after more than six months. He along with cousin Kuldipsingh Chhedilalsingh Chavan (18) boarded in the general coach of the train on Wednesday night. As there was huge rush in the train, he was travelling sitting on the footboard of the train. He lost his balance and fell off the train near Narkhed and hit an electric poll. He sustained grievous head injuries in the mishap and breathed his last on the spot. Narkhed police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.
