With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities. About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.
Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G Shekhar, S G Dabhade, Dilip Raghunath Sawant, Anil Kumbhare, S H Patil, B G Gaikar, Sunil Fulari, Sanjay Vilas Mohite, P R Budhvant, A B Rokde, J Supekar, R I Pokale, A V Mandya, Dattatray Karale, Nisar Tamboli, Supriya Patil Yadav, Navinchandra Reddy, Sanjay Bawiskar and Pravin Pawar
In the winter session of Maharashtra State Assembly, NCP MLA Jitendra Awadh raised the issue of delay in promotion of SPS to IPS cadre. Home Minister R R Patil then assured the procedure would be completed at earliest.
