IGP Chandra Kishore Mina By Dheeraj Fartode Chandra Kishore Mina, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Currently serving as Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Mina has held several important positions in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. While serving as ASP in Gadchiroli, Mina led a successful anti-Naxal operation in 2009, which resulted in the Petha encounter, weakening the Naxal movement. This operation earned him the DG Insignia. As SP in Akola and Nanded, Mina used innovative methods to maintain communal harmony and resolve tensions effectively. He uncovered a state-wide kidney transplant racket in Akola and, as DCP in Nagpur, dismantled organized crime syndicates through MCOCA and MPDA cases. About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.
Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G Shekhar, S G Dabhade, Dilip Raghunath Sawant, Anil Kumbhare, S H Patil, B G Gaikar, Sunil Fulari, Sanjay Vilas Mohite, P R Budhvant, A B Rokde, J Supekar, R I Pokale, A V Mandya, Dattatray Karale, Nisar Tamboli, Supriya Patil Yadav, Navinchandra Reddy, Sanjay Bawiskar and Pravin Pawar
In the winter session of Maharashtra State Assembly, NCP MLA Jitendra Awadh raised the issue of delay in promotion of SPS to IPS cadre. Home Minister R R Patil then assured the procedure would be completed at earliest.
