By Dheeraj Fartode The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has taken strong note of serious deficiencies on the Nagpur–Katol–Kalmeshwar road after a detailed inspection by a three-member committee. Based on the committee’s findings, the court on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and asked for a reply by January 6. The matter was heard by Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas. Earlier, the court had ordered a site inspection to verify whether the development work on the Nagpur-Katol road was completed as claimed by NHAI and to assess how much work was still pending. Accordingly, a committee comprising Advocates Ashwin Deshpande, Prasad Bawankule, Aradhya Pandey, along with NHAI’s lawyer Adv Anish Kathane, conducted the inspection on Saturday and submitted its report on Monday. About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.
Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G Shekhar, S G Dabhade, Dilip Raghunath Sawant, Anil Kumbhare, S H Patil, B G Gaikar, Sunil Fulari, Sanjay Vilas Mohite, P R Budhvant, A B Rokde, J Supekar, R I Pokale, A V Mandya, Dattatray Karale, Nisar Tamboli, Supriya Patil Yadav, Navinchandra Reddy, Sanjay Bawiskar and Pravin Pawar
In the winter session of Maharashtra State Assembly, NCP MLA Jitendra Awadh raised the issue of delay in promotion of SPS to IPS cadre. Home Minister R R Patil then assured the procedure would be completed at earliest.
