Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Murder accused consumed toilet cleaner at Umred police station

An accused arrested in the murder case of his paramour attempted to committ suicide at Umred Police Station by consuming toilet cleaner. Jitesh Waman Kumbhre (24), was admitted at the hospital and his condition is reportedly normal.  A police official said that Kumbhre, a resident Mangli (Arab) village in Nagbhir teshil of Chandrapur district, was arrested for killing Aishwarya Sunil Chavan, a resident of Umred. The girl had went missing on August 6, 2018.  Her parents, who are daily wage workers, had lodged a missing complaint with Umred police. However, the investigation had not moved even an inch for last three years.  WAPI Sheetal Khobragade resumed investigation in the case. DGP Maharashtra Subodh Jaiswal By Dheeraj Fartode Director General of Police (DGP) Subhodh Jaiswal has directed police personnel not to use force against civilians in a bid to enforce total lockdown in Maharashtra. Asking cops in the field to observe restraint, DGP said it is not advisable to punish people just for stepping out of the houses. “Force should not be used.. I repeat not be used against civilians for implementing government orders,” said DGP Jaiswal in a wireless message to all police units.  A senior police officer informed that DGP Jaiswal issued the orders in the wake of videos circulated on social media in which police personnel were seen using force against civilians for implementation of lockdown. COVID-19: General transfers of State police to get delayed

By Dheeraj Fartode Amid round the clock bandobast duties for implementation of lockdown, Maharashtra police have extended the date of submission of forms for General Transfers (GT) by a week. The GT may get delayed this year as police staff assuming longer period of lockdown, claimed sources.  However top officials are confident that despite the outbreak of coronavirus, the transfer would be carried out as per routine. Polytechnic students rob bank in Vaishali Nagar

An 18-year-old polytechnic students attempted to committ robbery at State Bank of India in Vaishali Nagar on Friday. He pocketed Rs 1.13 lakh from the bank and luck ran out as vigilant citizens caught and bashed him.  According to Pachpaoli police, the boy is student of Government Polytechnic College and also a photographer. He was in the need of Rs 10,000/-. As the there is very few customers in the banks, he decided to rob the bank near his house.  After doing recce of the bank, the entered at 11.45 pm with a sharp-weapon. He caught hold a sanitation worker Tushar Bawangade and threatened him with the sharp-weapon. He took the man near the cashier Sarika Jambulkar and also threatened her with the weapon. Man murdered for inter-caste marriage

A man was brutally murdered by family members of a girl with whom he married on March 1 this year. The incident happened at Vitaa Bhatti Chowk in Yashodhara Nagar police station. The assailants attacked the man with sharp-edged weapons and fled the crime scene only after he collapsed in the pool of blood, the police said.  The deceased was identified as Nitesh alias Chhotu Kalya Yadav Satokhiya (27), a resident of Dhamma Deep nagar. The police have arrested four persons on the murder charges - identified as Sheikh Naushad, Ayan Pathan, Sheikh Shahrukh, Aftaaf Pathan and others. COVID-19 : Maha Cyber registers 36 FIRs for spreading fake news

Tightening noose against fake news spreaders on social media, the Maharashtra cyber have registered 36 First Investigation Reports (FIRs). Of them, 20 FIRs were registered for spreading fake news on WhatsApp alone showing the platform is more popular among the rumour mongers leaving behind Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has recently instructed State police and Maharashtra Cyber to initiate stringent action against rumour mongers so that people would not be scared through such fake news. Maharashtra Cyber on Saturday released statistics about spread of fake news and action taken by the state police. As per the report, three FIRs were registered for spreading fake news on Facebook while two were registered for tweeting fake news on Twitter.
