Dabo club Nagpur Efforts to reopen the controversial Dabo Club, which was shut down for 45 days following the murder of two young men, have triggered strong anger and fear among the families of the victims. The incident took place in the early hours of December 26 last year during a Christmas party at Dabo Club. Pranav Ranavare (27) was allegedly killed after a minor dispute. His friend, Gaurav Karda (34), was badly injured in the same incident and later died during treatment. The Sonegaon police arrested six accused - Soumya Deshmukh, Mehul alias Monu Rahate, Rajiv Chawla, Abhay Jhamtani, Gappu Sharma and Tushar Nankani. All the accused are currently lodged in jail. The club is owned by Directors Devyani Vijay Wadettiwar, Karan Vikram Thakkar and Mohd Hamza Rayeen. Tightening noose against fake news spreaders on social media, the Maharashtra cyber have registered 36 First Investigation Reports (FIRs). Of them, 20 FIRs were registered for spreading fake news on WhatsApp alone showing the platform is more popular among the rumour mongers leaving behind Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has recently instructed State police and Maharashtra Cyber to initiate stringent action against rumour mongers so that people would not be scared through such fake news.
Maharashtra Cyber on Saturday released statistics about spread of fake news and action taken by the state police. As per the report, three FIRs were registered for spreading fake news on Facebook while two were registered for tweeting fake news on Twitter. One was registered against Tik Tok user and 10 cases registered against users of other platforms.
Balsingh Rajput, Superintendent of Police (SP), Maharashtra Cyber, said that the FIRs were registered after receiving complaints from citizens. “These FIRs were especially registered for spreading face news about coronavirus by rumour mongers,” he said. After receiving the complaints, immediate investigation was conducted by the Maharashtra cyber, he added.
According to statistics, highest five FIRs were registered by Beed cyber police, followed by Kolhapur cyber police with four cases, three each by Bhandara, Gondia and Nanded cyber police. Nagpur, Akola, Chandrapur, Wardha, Solapur, Nashik and Sangli cyber police have registered one FIR each so far.
It may be mentioned here that Dr. Dilip Pandharpatte, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Maharashtra Cyber, issued an advisory to all police units recently. “Malicious element are spreading fake news and vicious rumours regarding COVID-19 pandemic on on-line communication including channel, internet and social media causing panic, commit crime and disturb the public order in the State,” stated the IGP in the advisory and added that it was the duty of every citizen to be responsible with what they share on social media.
“If it comes to your notice about any person/organisation involved in spreading/creating/publishing rumours/fake news or misinformation on any forms of media or messaging platform, report it to the nearest police station/cyber police station or lodge complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in,” said SP Dr. Rajput.
