Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Anti-naxal operations gets boost as police force gets land in Gadchiroli MIDC By Dheeraj Fartode In a major boost to anti-naxal operation in dense forest areas of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has sanctioned a land admeasuring 42 acres to develop helipad in Gadchiroli. The new helipad is being erected for use by MI-17 helicopters which are being deployed against the red outlaws by the Government. At present there are two other helipad but they are being utlised for operations of smaller helicopters. Shiv Sena candidate defeats Congress stalwart Mukul Wasnik by 1.75 lakh margin  By Dheeraj Fartode Springing surprise, low profile Shiv Sena candidate for Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency Kripal Tumane on Friday defeated Congress stalwart Mukul Wasnik with a huge margin of 1,75,791 votes. Tumane bagged 5,19,892 votes while Wasnik, a former Union Minister and AICC General Secretary could secure only 3,44,101 votes.  Tumane had narrowly lost 2009 elections to Wasnik and victory margin was merely 16,701 votes. Last time Wasnik had bagged 3.11 lakh votes while Tumane had to content with 2.94 lakh votes. But on Friday, Tumane snatched this constituency back from Congress by defeating a giant. Central Railway’s Nagpur Division nets fine of Rs 1.43 crore from violators

By Dheeraj Fartode Nagpur Division of Central Railway have booked 45,630 persons for violation of various rules at railway stations and in trains and recovered fine worth Rs 1.43 crore during the year 2013-14.  Maximum number of violations is under without ticket category and travellers carrying unbooked luggage. Division officials booked 37,910 in this regard and recovered fine of Rs 87.94 lakh. The fine realised under this head during year 2011-12 was Rs 25,686 and Rs. 21,382 in 2010-11.  In cases under section 147 of IR act has also increased in 2013 and rose to 5123 as against 5077 in 2012 and 3734 in 2011. CR have recovered Rs 12.97 lakh during year 2013, and Rs 10.85 lakh in year 2012. The collection of fine was merely Rs 4.29 lakh in 2011. Central Railway improves its safety record as train mishaps decline

Compared to 44 accidents recorded during in year 2012-13, Central Railway managed to lower the  mishaps  in the year gone and by end of  March 14  the figure stood at 37. The safety record is direct reflection of performance of the concerned Zone of Indian Railway. By Dheeraj Fartode A property dealer was murdered by his business partner over money matter at Hawrapeth area under the jurisdiction of Ajni police station on Sunday.  According to information, accused Satyendra Narmadaprasad Sinha (43), a resident of plot no 66, Hawrapeth, smashed head of Ashok alias Govinda Somaji Sonawane (40), a resident of Ajni area with a jack (vehicle lifting instrument). Maharashtra police digitized 95 lakh crime records for CCTNS

CCTNS to ‘go live’ within three months, said SPL IGP Sanjay Verma By Dheeraj Fartode Maharashtra police has successfully digitized data of 95 lakh crime record since 1998 for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) project that is likely to be rolled out within next three months, said Special Inspector General (SPL IGP) and Chief of State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB), Sanjay Verma. The project is lagging behind schedule, originally deadline of April 2013 failed to see the project go on-line. CCTNS project had four stages, viz. hardware installation, software installation, manpower training, digitization,. State police is completing last phase of manpower training. 1054 police stations of state are successfully interconnected for the project and all information of the project will be saved at Sate Data Centre, BSNL, Mumbai. Three armed criminals were picked-up but released after overnight detention leading to allegations of favoritism By Dheeraj Fartode A team of Detection Branch (DB) of Ajni police station came under fire after its members 'botched-up' a case where they failed to complete the paper work after nabbing three armed criminals. The criminals, according to information, were put behind bars, they spent the night in lock-up on Friday, and then they were let out by the DB Squad.
