Maharashtra police digitized 95 lakh crime records for CCTNS

CCTNS to ‘go live’ within three months, said SPL IGP Sanjay Verma

By Dheeraj Fartode
Maharashtra police has successfully digitized data of 95 lakh crime record since 1998 for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) project that is likely to be rolled out within next three months, said Special Inspector General (SPL IGP) and Chief of State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB), Sanjay Verma. The project is lagging behind schedule, originally deadline of April 2013 failed to see the project go on-line.
CCTNS project had four stages, viz. hardware installation, software installation, manpower training, digitization,. State police is completing last phase of manpower training. 1054 police stations of state are successfully interconnected for the project and all information of the project will be saved at Sate Data Centre, BSNL, Mumbai. All information should be in place and work is in progress on war footing.
SPL IGP Verma told The Hitavada that training programme at all ranks is being carried out in the state and SCRB is getting good response from the staff. As the CCTNS has different function for each ranks hence training programme for each level is designed as per their requirements. After police staff become familiar with the software, the project would be launched in the state.
CCTNS
Site preparation and installation of software has been completed. Original software of the project was in Hindi and English and Wipro has developed the software in Marathi language for Maharashtra police. The digital project would help in quick analysis of crime trends and accompanying data about criminals known to be part of that crime would be flashed on the screens. This helps in identifying the suspects and faster dispensation of information should enable police force to speed-up their response time, Verma stated.
CCTNS footprint would be all over the country for a tracking system of criminals in real time, the most critical requirement in present day internal security problems. The government sanctioned Rs 2,000 crore in the XIth Five-Year Plan for the CCTNS across the country. CCTNS’ basic aim is to integrate police networks of respective states for enhancing efficiency and efficacy of policing at all levels, especially at police station-level through adoption of principles of e-Governance.

Project across the country soon

CCTNS evolved as Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). The project will be rolled out in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Kerala as pilot project.
As per government plan, after successful operation in these states the project will be implemented in all 36 states and Union Territories to cover 14,000 police stations and all 6,000 senior police officers across the country. The CCTNS project will be linked with every police station, district police office, state headquarters, respective State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
