Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Two youths threw petrol bomb at petrol pump in Lakadganj

Two youths attempted to set a petrol pump afire by throwing a petrol bomb following a quarrel over wearing face masks in Lakadganj police station area on Saturday. According to police, accused Omkar Bhaurao Tale (44), a resident of NIT garden, Shastri Nagar, Nandanvan and Suraj Ramesh Dahake (23), a resident of Jai Bhim Chowk, Hiwri Nagar, came to Bharat Petroleum’s fuel station on a motorcycle without wearing face masks on Saturday evening. When the employee was filling petrol in the motorcycle Dahake spitted near the petrol filling machine. When the employees objected to Dahake, the two refused to pay the bill of petrol. Later, the accused left the spot and threw the money on the face of the employees. Soon after, the accused came back to the fuel station and threw a petrol bomb on the petrol filling machine. 13-Year-old girl gang raped at crematorium in Hingna

A 13-year-old girl was gang raped at a crematorium in Hingna area when she was going to attend nature’s call on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The girl was admitted at the hospital and her condition is critical. The accused have been identified as Amit Jaiprakash Thakur (18) and Balwant Gond (20) and two other juveniles. According to police, the girl had gone to attend nature’s call in the bushes on Sunday at 11.30 pm. Amit and Balwant stopped the girl and forced her to sit on the motorcycle. The boys took the girl to crematorium where they raped her for two hours. They also threatened her of dire consequences if she narrate the incident to anyone. Trickesters dupe youth of Rs 30,000 at SBI Mahal

Two tricksters duped a youth to the tune of Rs 30,000 at State Bank of India’s (SBI) Mahal branch in Ganeshpeth Police Station area on Monday. “The accused lured the victim of giving share in loot money and took him outside the bank,” said police.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Amit Atram informed that complainant Rupesh Rameshrao Nimbole (34), a resident of Kotwali area had gone to SBI’s Mahal branch to deposit Rs 30,000 cash in his bank account. Two persons reportedly approached Rupesh and befriended with him. The men later told Rupesh that they have stolen Rs two lakh cash from Mumbai and wants to offer a share to him.  Rupesh fall pray to the ‘offer’ and accompanied the accused outside the bank. The tricksters had given a packet stating the packet containing Rs two lakh and took Rs 30,000 from Rupesh. Alert citizens caught thief red-handed

Alert citizens caught a thief red-handed when the thief was stealing a purse from an open house in Satranjipura area of Lakadganj Police Station.  The accused has been identified as Laik Khan Mukum Khan (35), a resident of Satranjipura.  The accused sneaked in the house of Prashant Dhnyaneshwar Hajare (42) when only his mother was present in the house. But the mother noticed Khan when he was stealing purse which was kept on the bed and she alerted neighbours. Three to four men came to the house and caught hold the thief. Later, the men informed the police about theft attempt. City police attaches Rs. 40 crore property of Jham builders

Property Cell of Nagpur City Police on Monday seized property of Jham Builders & Developers worth Rs 40 crore for delay in handing over possession of flats booked at its 30 acre township -- Kanhaiya City -- in Mouza Waghdhara, Hingna, area. The land where the builder had floated the scheme with under construction buildings have been attached by cops.  An offence against Hemant Sikandar Jham, Proprietor of Jham Builders and Developers, was registered at Sonegaon Police Station on October 19, 2015 under Sections 420, 406, 409, 34 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 3, 4, 8, 13, 14 of Maharashtra Ownership Flat Act 1963 after the builder delayed giving possession of flats and row houses in Kanhaiya City.  The builder had floated the scheme, Kanhaiya city on 30 acre land in year 2010. Fire in oil godown. Representional picture A major fire broke out at two godown at Control Wadi, Shivaji Nagar, area late on Sunday night. The fire gutted goods worth lakh of rupees.  Such was the intensity of fire that Fire and Emergency Services personnel evacuated homes located behind the godown for safety. The flames were leaping high and could be seen from nearly a kilometre and hence all available fire tenders were requisitioned to help control the blaze.  As per primary information with Fire and Emergency Services of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, a call was received regarding necessity of fire tenders to help douse a big fire. The fire as per information started from a godown stocking edible oil. The presence of inflammable material only helped the flames to spread quite fast and a nearby godown stocked with perfumed too was engulfed by the fire within few minutes. Kalamna Police arrest a bike lifter, recovers 13 stolen motorcycles

Staff of Kalamna Police Station Kalamna Police arrested a motorcycle lifter and recovered 13 stolen motorcycles from his possession. The thief had stolen the motorcycles from Kalamna, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli and Nandanvan Police Station areas. The accused was stealing the bikes after making duplicate key of the motorcycle.  The accused has been identified as Ganesh Diwakar Lende (19), a resident of Pardi, Mahajanpur, Kalamna. Acting on tip-off, the police arrested the accused from Chikali Chowk and recovered a motorcycle. As Lende was not possessing documents of the motorbike, the cops took him to police station for interrogation. During police interrogation, Lende spilled the beans and confessed for 13 mobike thefts committed with a juvenile offender. The accused have stolen four motorcycles from Kalamna, two from Nandanvan, two from Lakadgan and one from Pachpaoli Police Station area. One killed, injured injured after protection wall of under construction hospital collapsed

Protection wall collapsed A protection wall in basement area of an under construction building collapsed on Sunday injuring about nine labourers who got trapped under the debris. Immediately after the mishap, fellow laborers showed presence of mind and undertook rescue operations thereby minimising adversity. The rescued labourers were in trauma and rushed to the hospital. Of them, two grievously injured are reportedly battling for life, four others have suffered multiple fractures and four other luckily escaped with minor injuries. The incident exposed violation of labour laws in construction sector as the workers on the jobs were not wearing safety gear although task allotted to them was quite dangerous. Woman books for stealing a purse

Sitabuldi police have booked a woman for stealing a purse of a woman at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop on Friday. According to police, Alka Pravin Kuril (28), a resident of Milan square, Khaparkheda boarded in a wrong bus at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop at 12.20 pm and immediately deboarded leaving a bag in the bus. Grabbing the opprtunity, accused Ashadevi Mukesh Kaithwas (28), a resident of Rohna Road, Walni, Saoner removed a purse containing valuables worth Rs 1.20 lakh from Alka’s bag. When Alka checked the bag she realised that the purse has been stolen from the bag. She immedietely raised an alarm and alerted the passengers and Ashadevi was caught as the purse discovered in her bag. The police have booked the acccused under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code.

Tricksters dupes a bank customer of Rs 18,000

Another case of tricksters duping bank customer in bank premises reported in city. This time the bank is Bank of India’s (BOI) Wardhaman Nagar branch in Lakadganj area and the tricksters duped the bank customer to the tune of Rs 18,000.  The police said, victim Rohandas Ajitdas Banpela (20), a resident of Plot No 213, Jaidurga Nagar, Pardi had gone to the bank to credit Rs 18,000 cash. The tricksters approached Rohandas and befriended with him. During interaction, the accused showed a packet and told him that the packet containing cash worth lakhs of rupees. The accused had given the packet to Rohandas and took Rs 18,000 from him and fled the spot. When Rohandas opened the packet, he finds only papers in the packet. He informed the police about the incident and lodged a complaint. The police have registered the case under Sections 406 and 506 of IPC. Woman accused in murder of hubby surrenders at Bajaj Nagar Police Station

The woman, accused in murder case of her husband, surrendered at Bajaj Nagar Police Station on Friday.   The deceased husband was Nitin Ramesh Nayar (27), a resident of Baitul, Madhya Pradesh while name of the accused wife is Swati Nitin Nayar (25), a resident of Kerala.  The woman allegedly strangled her husband to death and concocted a story of accidental death. The crime was came to fore after brother of the deceased approach the police and lodged a complaint against the woman. Finding of autopsy report were also claimed ‘strangulation’ as the reason of death.  Nitin’s father was admitted at Wockhardt hospital in last week of April and Nitin and Swati were staying at a rented room. Police nabs two for house-breaking theft of Rs 10.19 lakh

Jaripatka Police have solved house-breaking theft worth Rs 10.19 lakh and arrested two youths from Yashodhara Nagar area. The accused had stolen the cash from house of Mangalgiri Chandrashekhar Bhupatidas (57) at DG-1, Amar Vihar Colony, Kamptee Road.  The accused have been identified as Faizal alias Rinku Jamil Sheikh (28), a resident of Vajpayee Nagar and Iqbal Abdul alias Akhsar Abdul Khalil (38), a resident of Uppalwadi area of Yashodhara Nagar.  The accused committed the theft between May 6 and 23 when Bhupatidas had gone to United States to meet her daughter. During investigation, the cops received a tip about the accused. The cops nabbed the accused from their house and took to the police station. The accused spilled the beans during interrogation and confessed for the crime. Nagpur Traffic Police on Saturday kick-start execution of ‘no parking zone’ notification that created 18 no parking zones and specified three lanes for one way traffic movement in Dhantoli area of city. Teams of Traffic Police with a force of two senior officers, 50 constabulary, an Warning Van, a Pickup Van, a Jammer Van and Anti-rikshaw squad regulated parking and vehicular traffic in the area. Impact of the drive was visible and there were very few instances of traffic jam. Petrol Pump manager robbed of Rs 4.60 lakh in Kalamna

Two bike-borne robbers robbed a Petrol Pump manager of cash worth Rs 4.60 lakh near Kapsi over-bridge on Friday night. The incident reported under Kalamna Police Station area. The accused attacked the manager and also snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone so that he could not inform anyone about the robbery immediately. The cops have launched hunt for the accused but not yet made any headway.  Victim Ratnakar Yadavrao Jhumale (37), a resident of Asuli village, Kamptee was a manager at a Petrol Pump on Kalamna-Kamptee road. He had kept the cash in a bag on Friday at 8.30 pm and embarked on a motorcycle to deposit the cash to the Pump owner. Two intercepted Jhumale near Kapsi Over-bridge and pushed the motorcycle cruising at speed of 60 km/hour. Jhumale lost control on the bike and fell on the road. Youth attempt to murder stepmother

A youth attempt to murder stepmother over property issue in Jaripatka area on Friday. The victim is Pramila Manohar Patil (45), a resident of Plot No. 15, Sushila lay-out while accused has been identified as Ravi Manohar Patil (30), a resident of Indora Model Town.  The police said, Ravi encroached upon land plot of Sushila at Nazool lay-out. When Pramila asked Ravi to remove the encroachment, the accused attacked her with iron road. Pramila sustained grievous injuries in the attack and admitted at hospital. The Jaripatka police have registered the case under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code. 

Cops book a man for extortion

Sitabuldi Police have booked a man on extortion charges. The accused -- Munna Yadav -- posed him a journalist and demanded money from Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Sandip Namdeo Kshirsagar.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) S. B. Danade informed that the ACF Kshirsagar had received a call on mobile phone on Friday. During conversation, the accused introduced himself as a journalist and asked money for the newspaper. When Khirsagar refused to do so, the accused abused him and threatened him. Kshirsagar lodged a complaint at Sitabuldi Police Station and submitted call recordings to the police. The cops have booked the accused under Sections 385, 294, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.

Man murdered for hurling abuses

A man's errant behaviour cost him his life after three persons murdered him. The incident occurred on Sunday in Pachpaoli area during the wee hours. Prima facie police said, the deceased seems to be mentally challenged and used to hurl abuses on anyone passing through the area. Identity of the deceased was not established as yet.  The accused were identified as Tularam alias Lalla Madan Dharmik (21), a resident of Thakkargram, Pachpaoli; Chandrashekhar alias Chandu Ruprao Bhisikar (25), a resident of Tandapeth, Pachpaoli and a juvenile. The identity of accused persons was ascertained on basis of CCTV footage. The dead body was noticed by the passersby on Sunday morning. After noticing stab injuries the cops registered a case of murder and initiated scanning of CCTVs footage from nearby shops in the area. Booty worth Rs one lakh stolen from a marriage function and the victim is mother of the bride. The incident reported at Shri Ganesh Lawn in Bajaj Nagar area.  The police said, the incident occurred on Thursday between 7.45 am and 9.30 am when Nalini Ratnakar Mankar (50), a resident of Plot No. 9, Shri Nagar, was busy in attending relatives in the marriage function. Grabbing the opportunity, the thief stolen the booty from her bag. When Nalini realised the theft, she informed her relatives. City Police’s Zone-V: Crime on decline, attempt to murder and thefts cases are on rise

By Dheeraj Fartode Zone - V of Nagpur Police Commissionerate covers Old Kamptee, New Kamptee, Kalamna, Yashodhara, Jaripatka and Koradi Police Stations. The Zone has recorded decrease in crime by 1.50 per cent and marginal two per cent increase in detection rate was recorded in the Zone. The Zone recorded have recorded increase in attempt to murder, dacoity, thefts, rape DCP Abhinash Kumar, IPS and death by negligence while graph of murder, chain snatching, robbery, burglary, cheating, hurts molestation is decreasing in the Zone. In year 2016, the Zone have recorded 2,163 crime cases as against 2,196 cases in year 2015 and 1,995 in year 2014. Total 1,447 detected by the cops in year 2016 with 69 per cent while detection rate was 67% in year 2015 and 65.56 per cent in year 2014. The Zone was formed in May 2016 and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhinash was in-charge of the Zone.  The Zone accounted for 22.05 per cent crime cases of Nagpur City in year 2016. The
