The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Booty worth Rs one lakh stolen from a marriage function and the victim is mother of the bride. The incident reported at Shri Ganesh Lawn in Bajaj Nagar area. The police said, the incident occurred on Thursday between 7.45 am and 9.30 am when Nalini Ratnakar Mankar (50), a resident of Plot No. 9, Shri Nagar, was busy in attending relatives in the marriage function. Grabbing the opportunity, the thief stolen the booty from her bag. When Nalini realised the theft, she informed her relatives. On Saturday, she lodged the complaint and the cops have registered the case under Section 380 of IPC.
In another case, Goons looted two persons near Loha Pool using sharp-edged weapons. The accused -- Sonu Dhor and two others -- stabbed the victims on their neck before flee with their purse.
According to police, Devendra Markand Shivankar (32), a resident of Bamni Khidki village of Gondia district along with a friend were walking Nagpur Railway Station at 6.30 pm. While passing through Loha Pool, the accused approached them and demanded money. When the poor men opposed them, the goons stabbed them on neck and face. Ganeshpeth police registered the case.
