Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Demonetisation : SBI employee dies of heart attack while on duty

The scramble by millions of panicked Indians to exchange banned currency or deposit them turned tragic when a bank employee of State Bank of India (SBI) Nagpur Branch died due to cardiac arrest in the bank on Friday afternoon.  The nationwide toll due to various reasons related to demonetisation reached to 31. According to police, Rampantula Venkatesh Rajesh (51) was busy doing cash works in the bank when he suffered a cardiac arrest at around 11.45 am.  He started sweating profusely and soon collapsed in the bank. Employees and customers panicked after the incident and offered water to him. As R V Rajesh was not responding, the bank employees rushed him to Wockhardt Hospital where the attending doctors tried hard to revive him. He was declared dead after all efforts failed. Demonetisation: There could be riot, says Apex court

Hearing petitions challenging the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes the Apex court of India warned that this is very serious. People have become frantic, people are affected. There may be riots. The bench led by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur, and comprising Justice Anil R Dave asked Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi if there was a problem with printing new notes. The CJI then countered it by saying that there was difficulty and suffering and the government cannot dispute that. The apex court took exception to the government's decision to reduce the exchange limit to Rs 2000. The Attorney General told the court that any case relating to demonetisation should be heard by the apex court only and High Courts should not be allowed to hear such petitions.  "People have the right to approach courts. Cash of Rs 91 lakh seized from BJP minister in Maharashtra

Cash worth over Rs 91 lakh belonging to Lokmangal Group of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s MLA and Cooperative minister in the state government Subhash Deshmukh, was seized by the squad of Osmanabad municipality on Wednesday. The cash reportedly comprised of the now-invalid tender of Rs 1000. After news of seizure of notes spread in the Maharashtra, the opposition united and launched salvo at the government for indulging in corruption. Rustom-2  The test flight took place from Aeronautical Test Range (ATR), Chitradurga, 250 km from Bangalore which is a newly developed flight test range for the testing of UAVs and manned aircraft. 30,946 mobile phones stolen in last six years

Cops are reluctant to file mobile theft cases Citizens of Nagpur have lost 30,946 mobile phones in last six years though officially only 1,300 have been registered as being stolen by unknown thieves. The statistics indicate growing trend of mobile thefts and missing cases across the city over the past five years.  In response to an RTI application filed by The Hitavada, Nagpur Police have furnished statistics of mobile missing cases and theft cases which reveals machinery’s approach to not recognise mobile loss as theft and merely record it as a missing case. Nagpur Police seize cash worth Rs 1.87 crore, four detained

Ambazari Police of Nagpur police on Sunday night conducted a raid at a posh apartment in Hill Top area and recovered huge cash worth Rs 1.87 crore from four persons.  The money stashed in a purple colour travel bag was then seized and taken to Ambazari Police Station along with four persons. The four persons are identified as Dipak Sayanarayan Agrawal, a resident of Telephone Exchange square, Opposite Rahate surgical hospital, Arvind Ambadas Gavai, Aniket Mohandas Kumbhre and Mayank Kumar Mulchand Shivhare. ED raids foreign exchange brokers

Adopting a novel modus operandi, these brokers were ready to launder black money Two days after Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 rupee notes were withdrawn as part of anti-corruption measures, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted sweeping raids at Nagpur and Raipur to prevent laundering of black money using foreign currency exchange route.  A senior officer of Enforcement Directorate told The Hitavada that full fledged drive has been carried out in Nagpur at three places. New Rs 2000 notes will have Nano-GPS Chips

The chips can be located even if they are ‘120 meters’ below ground level After banning old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will introduce new Rs 2,000 notes loaded with nano-GPS chips (NGC) which will enable the Governement to easily track these notes which will help to controll black money transactions. Rs 2000 note embeded with NGC According to information, the NGC chips are actually signal-reflectors which would be track by satellites. The chips can be located even if they are ‘120 meters’ below ground level. No Bullet train from Nagpur, says GM of Central Railway

Train between Nagpur-Secunderabad will run with speed of 160 km/h General Manager of Central Railway (CR) Akhil Agrawal on Thursday denied any possibility of running bullet train from Nagpur. However, the GM assured that work of high-speed corridor from Napgur to Secunderabad is under progress. Addressing a press conference at DRM office, Agrawal said that trains are running with max speed of 100 to 110 km/h on Nagpur-Secunderabad route. The speed will increase upto 160 km/h after completion of the project.
