Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Alleging victimisation by DGP, the Amravati IG warns of suicide

  • Suicide note by Amravati Range IG goes viral
  • DGP Mathur dismisses threat as over-reaction

A wave of sensation spread in Maharashtra Police on Sunday night after “ a suicide note” of Special Inspector General (SPL IGP) Amravati Range, Vitthal Jadhav, was widely circulated on social media. This suicide note has also raised a big questionmark over leadership qualities and behavioural pattern of senior police officers assigned with sensitive tasks and supervisory duties.
The suicide note reads thus– “From Mpsc Cadre and unfortunately Maratha You@Hon Dgp Sir Targettimg Me, I Will Sucicidede &You & Hon. DGP Will be Responsible, I CCant Bear Ur & Hon DGP'S Humilation Hence Forth. Before I Commit succidee  I will disclose Every Thingto Press And My Family Members
IG Amravati”.
IGP Vitthal Jadhav
IGP Jadhav sent the note to some police officers on WhatsApp and the officers further forwarded it to Director General of Police (DGP) Satish Mathur. After receiving the note, DGP Mathur also called IGP Jadhav but his phone was out of coverage. He later ordered some police officers posted at Amravati to search for IGP Jadhav. The officers informed the head of Maharashtra Police that IGP Jadhav was reportedly in an inebriated condition.
Confirming this development, DGP Mathur told The Hitavada that it was his duty to pull up the officers for any lapse of shortcoming. “A Hindu-Muslim riot took place at Umarkhed during Ganapati idol immersion. I have fixed their responsibility for the riot,” said Mathur.
Mathur denied allegation of “specific targeting” of IGP Jadhav and said that Superintendent of Police (Yavatmal) was also pulled-up for not taking adequate precautions to avoid riot and its aftermath. As head of the police force it is my duty to evaluate performance of every officer and I feel that said officer had apparently over-reacted, the DGP stated.
A senior police officer who is aware of development said that IGP Jadhav was in “different condition”  when he sent the message threatening to abruptly end his life. Before taking charge as IGP Amravait Range, Vitthal Jadhav had served as IGP, CID and additional CP in Mumbai.
It may be mentioned that allegation by senior officers against top brass is not new to Maharashtra police. Earlier, IG (Prison), Nagpur, Shashikant Shinde had lodged a complaint under Atrocity Act against Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal in year 2014 and following an order by JMFC Court the case was registered against Dayal. However, later High Court slammed the lower court for mechanically passing the order and pulled up Shinde for using Atrocity Act to settle his personal score and service dispute. MPSC cadre officers often grudge about the raw deal meted to them vis-a-vis direct IPS officers.
However, in this particular case, many senior officers strongly disapproved the manner in which suicide note has been posted on social media by a senior officer of the Special IGP rank. Such careless action often brings ignominy to entire police force and officers become a subject of ridicule and joke on social media, rued a senior police officer.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha. It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
