28 firearms, 862 NDPS Cases, Rs 7.7 Crore; Seized: Rural Police crack down hard in 2025

With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities.  Large-scale operations against crime and unlawful businesses led to seizures worth Rs 7.7 crore by the police during the year. Preventive action against  1,496  According to official records, preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS increased sharply from 569 cases in 2024 to 1,496 cases in 2025 which marked a 163 per cent rise. Preventive actions under Section 129 BNSS also increased from 1,644 cases to 1,965 cases. Violations of preventive bonds rose from 85 cases in 2024 to 201 cases in 2025, and fines recovered through courts jumped from Rs 11,600 to Rs 23,66,200. President’s Police Medal for IGP Sanjay Darade

The Union Government has awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service to Sanjay Bhaskar Darade, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2005 batch. Darade is recognized for his work especially in Nagpur City and Vidarbha region.

Darade has served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Nagpur and as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He is known for handling sensitive cases, particularly in corruption investigations and for leading successful operations against corruption. His work in Nagpur earned him praise at both local and state levels.

He has also served in various other important roles, including as SP in Dharashiv, Yavatmal, and Nashik Rural. He played key role in managing large events during elections and public gatherings. Notable achievements include his role in the 2014 Legislative Assembly elections in Yavatmal and a major arms seizure in Nashik Rural including 44 rifles, revolvers, and over 4,000 live cartridges.

Darade also received recognition for his work during the 2015 Nashik Kumbh Mela and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Konkan. Upon receiving the award, Darade expressed that the Medal was a great honour for me and my family. It gives me the strength to continue working harder for the betterment of society and the common people.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
