Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. VHP reconverted 25,000 Muslims and Christians last year, VHP

Secretary General of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Milind Parande on Saturday said that more than 25,000 of Muslims and Christians were reconverted in Hindu religion in 2018. “We are organising reconversion programmes regularly across the country to reconvert Muslims and Christians in Hindu religion. The programme was conducted this year too but the figures are not compiled,” he said.  Addressing a press conference, Parande said that religious conversion is a national problem. “VHP want a bill which will make it difficult to convert people to other religions. Cops probing into the ‘iridium fraud’ case were shocked to learn that accused Raj Singh alias Rajeshkumar Tarkeshwarsingh, a resident of Jharkhand, was posing as a RAW agent to impress the investors. Jealous by FB posts, youth kidnap friend to extract his business details

25-10-19 JEALOUS with regular Facebook posts of a friend with his girlfriend, a youth kidnapped his friend with the help of two ‘fake policemen’ to extract details of his business. 24-10-19 Film Director and producer Vipul Shah and his partner in the film production company were duped by fraudsters to the tune of Rs five crore. The fruadsters assured investment of Rs 100 crore in their upcoming movies and told him that they were making money through old coins of British era, saying that the coin minted from Iridium, a precious metal, had some supernatural powers.   The accused have been identified as Rajsingh alias Rajeshkumar Tarkeshwarsingh, a resident of Jharkhand; Builder Keshav D Padole, a resident of Nirmal Puja Building, Shivaji Nagar and R. 23-10-19 NATIONAL Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics for the year 2017 ranked Nagpur seventh in crime rate among 19 metro politan cities ofIndia and firstinthe State. Office-bearars of Active Growth company booked for fraud of Rs 1.34 cr

Office-bearers of Active Growth company were booked by Economic Offences Wing (OCW) for duping investors to the tune of Rs 1.34 crore on pretext of double their investment within three months. The accused have been identified as Ganesh Shriram Kaikade, Vilas Shriram Kaikade and Sushma Ganesh Kaikade, all residents of Plot No. 60, Ayodhya Nagar, near Sai Mandir.  Complainant Vilas Vitthalrao Bobde (60), a resident of Plot No. 383, Vitthal-Rukmini Palace, Laxmi Nagar, lodged a complaint with EoW alleging the accused had collected Rs 28.50 lakh from him and Rs 71.84 lakh from other investors in July 2019 on pretext of doubling the investment. 7-Year-old girl raped by a man

In heinous crime, Imambada police have booked a 55-year-old man for raping a seven-year-old girl by luring her of money on Wednesday.  Accused Ramdas Punavu Shendur, a resident of Imambada, called the girl at his residence in the morning and raped her by luring her of money, said police. The girl narrated the incident to her parents, who reported the matter to police. The police have registered the case under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code read with Section 3, 4 of POSCO Act. 23-10-19 An Accounts Officer attached with Finance Department of Zilla Parishad Nagpur was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Nagpur while accepting bribe of Rs 4,500/- on Wednesday.  The complainant is a contractor with ZP Nagpur. He bagged nine tenders of various works in Mouda area. After completion of works, he submitted the file with finance department to get his bills cleared. Accounts officer Sudam Pangul had demanded Rs 4,500/- bribe to the contractor to clear the bills. The contractor then approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.  The ACB officials laid a trap accordingly and nabbed the contractor red-handed while accepting the bribe at his office in the evening. Police slaps MCOCA against Santosh Ambekar and 11 others

23-10-19 City police have slapped stringent Maharashtra Conrol Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) gangster Santosh Ambekar and his 11 accomplices on Wednesday. Ambekar was arrested by Crime Branch recently for duping a businessman of Rs five crore in a property deal and also issuing threats to him for extortion of Rs one crore. Two girls killed in separate road mishaps in city

22-10-19 Two girls were killed in separate road accidents in Ganeshpeth and Yashodhara Nagar police station area on Wednesday. A father of a girl was also seriously injured in the mishap.  In the first accident, a girl was killed in a road accident when a speeding Shivshahi bus of MSRTC hits her moped on which she was riding with her father on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Divya Gulab Sontakke (70), a resident of Plot No. 197, Pitruchhaya, Ladikar lay-out, Manewada. 22-1-19 One more offence was registered against Gangster Santosh Ambekar by city police for extorting Rs 15 lakh from a person who was co-accused in the murder case of Balya Gawande, an arch rival of Ambekar.   Complainant Jaibharat Jaihind Kale (43), a resident of New Subhedar lay-out, Sakkardara, and Ambekar were accused in Balya Gawande murder case. Gawande was killed in year 2017 at Sant Tukaram Nagar. The court had acquitted all the accused including Ambekar and Kale citing loopholes in the investigation by Kalamna police.  “Ambekar told Kale that he had spent Rs one crore in Mantralaya to secure their acquittal. Newborn girl’s body found in nullah at Hingna

Body of a newborn girl was found floating in a nullah under a bridge in Hingna police station area on Tuesday morning. The infant was found by Durgesh Ashokrao Kuhite (27), a resident of Chini Mangli village in Hingna tehsil, when he was passing by the area around 7 am. Staff of Hingna police station rushed to the spot after being informed by Kuhite. The police have recovered the body from the nullah and sent it to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. A police official said that it was a case of a mother abandoning the newborn. The child might be died after birth, but to conceal the birth and to destroy evidence, the accused dumped it in the nullah, the official said.  “We have sent the body to hospital for a forensic post-mortem,” said the official. Hingna police have registered the case under Section 318 of Indian Penal Code for concealing the birth of a child by secretly disposing of the body. Crime Branch arrest three burglars, recovers 150 gm of gold

21-10-19 Crime Branch of City Police have arrested three burglars for committing eight house-breaking thefts across the city. The police have recovered 150 gm of gold ornaments from a jeweller who had purchased stolen property from the accused. The accused have been identified as Kapil Ishwar Maskari (24), a resident of Sakharkar Wadi, Kalamna; Shubham Mahendra Marathe (22), a resident of Punjaram Wadi and Manoj Ramadhar Lilhare (34), a resident of Dipti Signal, Kalamna. 21-10-19 In a major breakthrough, a five-member interstate gang of robbers was busted by Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur rural police on Monday for robbing an Umred businessman of Rs 8.5 lakh last week. The robbers committed the crime last Monday at 11:30 am when the victim Nikesh Mahesh Tolani (29), a distributor for Hindustan Uniliver Ltd, was on his way to a bank with two bags containing cash. Tolani was accosted by the accused who tried to snatch the bags from him. They stabbed Tolani in his head and stomach before fleeing on a motorcycle with the bags containing Rs 8,53,000 cash. After registering the case under Sections 394 and 34 of Indian Penal Code, the police started checking footage and location of history-sheeters active in the area. BJP and Congress supporters come to blows in Saoner

The BJP and Congress supporters on Monday clashed with each other following a quarrel over clicking of pictures near a polling booth at Sillewada. Windshield of a car of BJP candidate for Saoner assembly segment Dr. Rajiv Potdar was damaged by Congress supporters during the fight. Goon attacks constable at Central Jail

A constable of Prison Department was attacked by a goon at Central Jail on Saturday. The constable was seriously injured in the attack and admitted to the hospital and his condition is reportedly critical.  According to police, accused Ashwajeet Pradip Tagde (25), a resident of Kausalya Nagar, Chimni Chowk, is history-sheeter goon of Ajni area. SRPF Group IV receives ISO certification

19-10-19 State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Group IV have received ISO certification for achieving stipulated parameters in policing, a senior official said Sunday. The certification is given by Geneva-based International Standards Organisation (ISO) on the basis of various parameters. A team of ISO conducted survey on August 18 and given some guidelines. Commandant G Shridhar completed all the formalities within two months required for the certificate.   The certificate was received for ideal furniture, drinking water system, toilets, use of modern system for maintaining records, vehicle parking, tree plantation, names to the offices, job profile, mess for policemen and others.     Police personnel were briefed about working in a certain manner to improve the functioning of key areas which constituted the focus of ISO. Accountant booked for duping SMS Ltd of Rs 52 lakh

19-10-19 An accountant manager with SMS Ltd duped the company to the tune of Rs 52 lakh. Rana Pratap Nagar police have booked the accountant on the charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.  The accused has been identified as Amit Santaram Apreja (41), a resident of Plot No. 10/B, Gokuldham, Godhani. According to police, Apreja committed the fraud from December 2012 to July 2019. Instead of transferring the money to accounts of other companies, Apreja allegedly diverted the amount to the bank accounts of wife and other relatives. The company had conducted an inquiry following an alert email sent by another accountant officer to senior company officials.  After finding Apreja’s involvement in the fraud, a complaint was lodged with Rana Pratap Nagar police by Abhishek Anil Mehta (37), a resident of Plot No. 404, Maharshi Kapil Apartment, Swawlambi Nagar. The police have booked the accused under Sections 420, 406 and 408 of Indian Penal Code.

Police bandobast for assembly elections

The city police is geared up for the October 21 Assembly elections with a heavy deployment of over three lakh personnel along with the Central forces, an official said on Saturday. The election results will be declared on October 24. A heavy blanket of security will be seen across the state for peaceful polling, the official said. At least three helicopters along with drones will be used in Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district, Milind Bharambe, special inspector general of police (Law and Order) said. Apart from two lakh personnel from the state police, 350 companies of Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Nagaland Women Police Force will also be roped in, he said. At least 100 companies of State Reserve Police Force and around 45,000 jawans of State Home Guards have been deployed on 24-hour duty, he said, adding that services of 20,000 Home Guard jawans of other states are also sought.

Thousands of policemen to be deprived of voting

19-10-19 THOUSANDS of police personnel would not be able to vote in the Assembly elections as they failed to file form no. 12 mandatory for casting postal ballot, thanks to senior police officers in Nagpur Police who failed to convey the last date of filing to the constabulary staff. More than 5,000 policemen would be deployed for election duties at polling booths and management of sensitive areas, a top rank officer said. However, only a few have managed to file the Form No. 12, it has been learnt. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Welfare, Vinay Marathe informed ‘The Hitavada’ that as many as 1,558 police personnel have filed form required for casting postal ballot. “A police officer at every police station was designated as nodal officer and forms were given to him on October 10. Man arrested from Mominpura in connection with UP’s Kamlesh Tiwari murder case

 19-10-19 A man was arrested by Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from Mominpura locality of city in connection with the murder of former Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) leader Kamlesh Tiwari in Uttar Pradesh.  A senior rank official in ATS Maharashtra informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the man was arrested from Mominpura following tip-off from UP police. “He was connected with the accused persons arrested from Gujarat on Saturday,” he said. The police found continuous phone calls between the accused persons.  The ATS team raided his house and bundled him in police jeep. He was taken to the ATS office in the evening and would be produced in the court on Sunday for police custody.  Tiwari, who had appealed on behalf of the organisation in the Ayodhya case before the Supreme Court, was killed Friday at his Lucknow home. According to CCTV footage, two youths were seen entering his house on Friday noon.

Ganster Ambekar booked in rape case

19-10-19 Lakadganj police booked Gangster Santosh Ambekar for molesting and raping a woman for more than seven years. The woman alleged that Ambekar had allegedly raped her at his house, in office, in a hotel at Mumbai and a resort at Banglore.  Ambekar (49), a resident of Doshiwadi Bhavan, near Itwari High School, was slapped with Sections of 354 (a), 354 (d), 376 (2) (n) and 506 of Indian Penal Code read with Sub-sections 12 of POSCO Act.  The woman in her complaint alleged that Ambekar was used to call her on telephone in year 2011. He called her at his office and raped her in year 2015. Soon after, he took her to woman in a hotel at Ghatkopar in Mumbai and a resort at Banglore and sexually exploited her. Ambekar was already arrested by police for duping a businessman of Rs five crore in a property deal and also issuing threats to him for extortion of Rs one crore. Shah dares Rahul Gandhi to restore article 370 after coming to power

Six arrested from Ajni area for stealing diesel from bus

Ajni police have arrested six pesons for stealing Diesel from a private bus. The arrest also led to cracking of a bike theft case reported in Imambada area. Swapnil Akhand (29), a resident of Kalmeshwar lodged a complaint with Ajni police on Friday that 35 litres of Diesel was stolen from fuel tank of his bus when it was parked at Shatabdi Chowk at 2.30 am. “The thieves fled the spot after the driver noticed them, said police.  On the basis of RTO registration number (MH-49/AV-3034) of a bike that was used by the criminals given by the driver, the police identified the accused and arrested them.  The police have recovered the stolen diesel from the possession of the accused. During interrogation, the police learnt that the accused were involved in bike theft reported in Imambada area. 292 police personnel killed in line of duty in last one year

15-10-19 AS MANY as 292 police personnel, including 67 belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 41 from Border Security Force (BSF), have laid down their lives in the line of duty in last one year, Deputy Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Badri Narayan said in a letter issued to Heads of State Police Force and Central Forces. The IB has issued a list of police personnel who laid their lives in the line of duty. According to the list, 292 police personnel were killed while performing various duties across the country from September 1, 2018 to August 30, 2019. As per the data released up to August 31, 2019, more than 35,136 police personnel have made supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. Among these police personnel, 67 belonged to the CRPF, 41 to the BSF, 23 were from the Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP), 24 from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 20 belonged to Maharashtra police, 14 from Chhhattisgarh, 12 from Karnataka police, 11 belonged to Railway Protect

MSEDCL leaves SNDL employees in dark on Diwali

16-10-19 Around 600 employees of the bankrupt Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd were left in the dark on Diwali after the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) failed to pay their salary dues, despite its commitment that their dues will be cleared within a month. The SNDL employees on Wednesday protested in the office of SNDL for the salary and dues.  Out of 600 employees, around 150 were on rolls including Department heads and Sub-Heads and 450 others. After the MSEDCL took over the operations, Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MSEDCL’s MD Operations Dinesh Saboo and others had made a statement in the press conference that that salaries would be paid on time to the employees and they would be absorbed in Class III category on contract.  However, since the takeover and parallel operations, salaries of SNDL employees had never came on time. Ambekar hospitalised after collapsed in police lock up

Gangster Santosh Ambekar was hospitalised on late Tuesday night after he collapsed in the police lock up. He complained of dizziness, said police.   He is being treated at Intensive Carte Unit (ICU) at Ward No. 24 of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). A large number of police personnel have been deployed near the ward.  Ambekar told the police that he is patient of Blood Pressure and Sugar. On Tuesday night, he collapsed in the lock up after which the police rushed him to the hospital.  An offence under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 384, 386, 506 (b) and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered against Ambekar and five others on Saturday for duping a businessman of Rs five crore in a property deal and also issuing threats to him for extortion of Rs one crore.  Ambekar’s nephew Nilesh Dhnyaneshwar Kedar (31),a  resident of Darodkar Chowk was also nabbed by the police. Unable to repay loan, farmer ends life in Dhapewada

A debt-ridden farmer has allegedly committed suicide at Dhapewada Khurd village in Kalmeshwar tehsil. According to Kalmeshwar police, Mahadev Raghunath Ranade (48), a resident of Dhapewada Khurd village was under stress as he was unable to repay his loans. He committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling hook at his home in on Monday at 5 pm. He owned four acres of agricultural land in the village. His wife and son were at their farm when he took the extreme step. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which Ranade purportedly mentioned that his cotton crop was severely damaged last year due to the pink bollworm (pest) attack, the official said. He had taken a loan of around Rs one lakh from his friends and other villagers for sowing cotton this year. But, as he was unable to repay the loan, he took the extreme step, said a police official, quoting the suicide note. Kalmeshwar police have registered a case of accidental death.
