Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . A man was arrested by Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from Mominpura locality of city in connection with the murder of former Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) leader Kamlesh Tiwari in Uttar Pradesh.
A senior rank official in ATS Maharashtra informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the man was arrested from Mominpura following tip-off from UP police. “He was connected with the accused persons arrested from Gujarat on Saturday,” he said. The police found continuous phone calls between the accused persons.
The ATS team raided his house and bundled him in police jeep. He was taken to the ATS office in the evening and would be produced in the court on Sunday for police custody.
Tiwari, who had appealed on behalf of the organisation in the Ayodhya case before the Supreme Court, was killed Friday at his Lucknow home. According to CCTV footage, two youths were seen entering his house on Friday noon.
