Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Two girls were killed in separate road accidents in Ganeshpeth and Yashodhara Nagar police station area on Wednesday. A father of a girl was also seriously injured in the mishap.
In the first accident, a girl was killed in a road accident when a speeding Shivshahi bus of MSRTC hits her moped on which she was riding with her father on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Divya Gulab Sontakke (70), a resident of Plot No. 197, Pitruchhaya, Ladikar lay-out, Manewada. She recently came to Nagpur after completing her education at Pune.
According to police, the accident occurred at 10.40 am when Divya was heading towards home on Scooty moped after medical check-up of her father at a hospital. When she was passing through Vimal Complex, a Shivshahi bus (MH-09/EM-1960) came from opposite direction and hit the moped. Divya and her father fell on the road and sustained grievous injuries. They were taken to the hospital where the girl succumbed to ther injuries. Condition of her father is reportedly normal. Ganeshpeth police have registered an offence under Sections 279, 337 and 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code read with Sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act.
In another case, a daughter of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer, who is posted in Jammu and Kashmir, was killed in road accident in Yashodhara Nagar area.
The deceased has been identified as Tazin Fatima (17). According to police, Fatima’s mother is working as nurse with a hospital. She arrived home in the evening. When she had gone to bathroom, Fatima took the moped without informing her mother. She met an accident at Sharda Company Chowk after a speeding truck rammed into her moped. She was seriously injured in the accident and rushed to the hospital by passersby. Doctors declared her dead on arrival. Yashodhara Nagar police have registered the case. Further investigation is on.
