With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Five police personnel attached to Nandanvan police station were suspended by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone IV Nirmala Devi on Tuesday in connection with seizure of mephedrone (MD) drug and cash of Rs 2.45 lakh from their possession.
Suspended policemen have been identified as constable Sachin Emprediwar, Rajendra Sirbhate, Dilip Awgan, Roshan Nimbarte, Abhay Marode. An offence under Sections 22(b), 29(b) and 59(a) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 Act, 1985 was registered against the policemen and two drug peddlers Jamal and Javed on the basis of complaint given by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Sakkardara Division Vijay Dhapawkar on Monday.
Investigation revealed that the police personnel had nabbed a drug peddler Jamal in Nandanvan area on October 14 at 2.30 pm. The police had seized the MD drug from his possession. But Jamal somehow managed to escape from the police custody. Soon after, another drug peddler Javed met the accused police personnel and given Rs 2.45 lakh for not arresting Jamal. The policemen came back to the police station and kept the cash and the drug in the cupboard. Senior police officers are conducting inquiry in the matter to find role of other policemen in the case.
A police official said that the policemen were arrested after registration of the case and produced in the court. The police obtained three days custody of the accused.
