It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Lakadganj police booked Gangster Santosh Ambekar for molesting and raping a woman for more than seven years. The woman alleged that Ambekar had allegedly raped her at his house, in office, in a hotel at Mumbai and a resort at Banglore.
Ambekar (49), a resident of Doshiwadi Bhavan, near Itwari High School, was slapped with Sections of 354 (a), 354 (d), 376 (2) (n) and 506 of Indian Penal Code read with Sub-sections 12 of POSCO Act.
The woman in her complaint alleged that Ambekar was used to call her on telephone in year 2011. He called her at his office and raped her in year 2015. Soon after, he took her to woman in a hotel at Ghatkopar in Mumbai and a resort at Banglore and sexually exploited her.
Ambekar was already arrested by police for duping a businessman of Rs five crore in a property deal and also issuing threats to him for extortion of Rs one crore. The complaint was lodged against Ambekar by Jigar Pareshbhai Patel, a resident of Kapadvanj, District - Kheda, Gujarat with Sitabuldi police on Saturday accusing Ambekar and his accomplices for duping him of Rs five crore and demanding extortion of Rs one crore.
