It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. In heinous crime, Imambada police have booked a 55-year-old man for raping a seven-year-old girl by luring her of money on Wednesday.
Accused Ramdas Punavu Shendur, a resident of Imambada, called the girl at his residence in the morning and raped her by luring her of money, said police. The girl narrated the incident to her parents, who reported the matter to police. The police have registered the case under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code read with Section 3, 4 of POSCO Act. The accused was arrested by the police. A police official informed that the girl was used to come at the house accused as the family know each other.
In another rape case, Mankapur police have booked a teenager for raping a 16-year-old girl at her house. The crime took place in May 2017, said police. The boy befriended with the girl on facebook and met her at house in Mankapur area. He sexually exploited her when she was alone at home.
The girl currently living at Mumbai, the police. An offence under Sections 376 (2) of Indian Penal Code and Section 4, 8 of POSCO Act was registered against the accused. \
Woman killed after her moped skidded off the road
A 27-year-old woman was killed in a road accident after her moped skidded off the road in Jaripatka area.
The deceased has been identified as Manju Nandlal Pariyani (27), a resident of B/2, NIT, Kasturba Nagar. The accident occurred on Tuesday at 6.45 am when Manju was passing through Barakholi area on her Activa moped. She suddenly lost control over the wheels and the moped skidded off the road. She sustained serious injuries to her head and died in hospital at 11.30 pm. Jaripatka police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.
