It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Two bike-borne robbers robbed a Petrol Pump manager of cash worth Rs 4.60 lakh near Kapsi over-bridge on Friday night. The incident reported under Kalamna Police Station area. The accused attacked the manager and also snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone so that he could not inform anyone about the robbery immediately. The cops have launched hunt for the accused but not yet made any headway.
Victim Ratnakar Yadavrao Jhumale (37), a resident of Asuli village, Kamptee was a manager at a Petrol Pump on Kalamna-Kamptee road. He had kept the cash in a bag on Friday at 8.30 pm and embarked on a motorcycle to deposit the cash to the Pump owner. Two intercepted Jhumale near Kapsi Over-bridge and pushed the motorcycle cruising at speed of 60 km/hour. Jhumale lost control on the bike and fell on the road. The robbers caught hold Jhumale and thrashed him mercilessly and threatened him. The robbers took possession of Jhumale’s mobile phone, motorcycle and the bag containing cash and sped away from the spot.
Helpless Jhumale got a lift from a biker and reached the police station and narrated the incident. Staff of Kalamna Police Station rushed to the spot and started investigation in the matter. The police have registered the case under Sections 394 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
