It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. The woman, accused in murder case of her husband, surrendered at Bajaj Nagar Police Station on Friday.
The deceased husband was Nitin Ramesh Nayar (27), a resident of Baitul, Madhya Pradesh while name of the accused wife is Swati Nitin Nayar (25), a resident of Kerala.
The woman allegedly strangled her husband to death and concocted a story of accidental death. The crime was came to fore after brother of the deceased approach the police and lodged a complaint against the woman. Finding of autopsy report were also claimed ‘strangulation’ as the reason of death.
Nitin’s father was admitted at Wockhardt hospital in last week of April and Nitin and Swati were staying at a rented room. Swati phoned younger brother of Nitin and stated that Nitin died in an accident. When the family members reached the spot, Swati told the relatives that Nitin slipped on the floor and died due to severe head injuries. Later, the relatives took the dead body to Betul where last rites were performed.
Relatives of the deceased informed that Swati was divorced from first marriage and married with Nitin six months ago. However, she was used brawl with Nitin over petty issues. The police are now suspecting that Swati have strangled Nitin after brawl in the room.
Swati was on run after she was booked under Section 302 of IPC. She arrived the police station at afternoon hours and surrendered.
