It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Sitabuldi police have booked a woman for stealing a purse of a woman at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop on Friday.
According to police, Alka Pravin Kuril (28), a resident of Milan square, Khaparkheda boarded in a wrong bus at Mor Bhavan Bus Stop at 12.20 pm and immediately deboarded leaving a bag in the bus. Grabbing the opprtunity, accused Ashadevi Mukesh Kaithwas (28), a resident of Rohna Road, Walni, Saoner removed a purse containing valuables worth Rs 1.20 lakh from Alka’s bag. When Alka checked the bag she realised that the purse has been stolen from the bag. She immedietely raised an alarm and alerted the passengers and Ashadevi was caught as the purse discovered in her bag. The police have booked the acccused under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code.
