MI-17 helicopters to fly from Gadchiroli as State earmarks 42-acre land for helipad

Anti-naxal operations gets boost as police force gets land in Gadchiroli MIDC

By Dheeraj Fartode
In a major boost to anti-naxal operation in dense forest areas of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has sanctioned a land admeasuring 42 acres to develop helipad in Gadchiroli. The new helipad is being erected for use by MI-17 helicopters which are being deployed against the red outlaws by the Government. At present there are two other helipad but they are being utlised for operations of smaller helicopters.
Special Inspector General of (Gadchiroli Range) Ravindra Kadam confirmed the development and said it would definitely support police force in their operations against the naxals.
MI-17 helicopters to fly from Gadchiroli
The police force is currently using Dauphin helicopters in Gadchiroli area for airlifting the injured police personnel to Nagpur for advanced treatment. The helipads are at Aheri and another is in Gadchiroli town. Maximum capacity of this helicopter is five persons. Hence the force sometimes felt disappointed for not being able to airlift all the injured personnel in one go.
A senior officer said, it becomes very difficult exercise in case of emergency as the helicopter is not useful for transportation of more police personnel at a time. Government had given its nod for use MI-17 from Pawanhans. However we did not had a big piece of land in Gadchiroli area to develop a helipad, he claimed. As the size of the helicopter i.e. 60 feet 7 inch is double than previous Dauphin helicopter, it also needs a big helipad.
The force identified MIDC land for development of helipad as they found it very convenient. Regional Officer of MIDC, Vijay Bhakre told ‘The Hitavada’ that MIDC has sanctioned 42 acres of land at MIDC, Gadchiroli, last week. The land was first allocated to Surjagad Cement company about seven years ago. But the company failed to utilise the land and hence MIDC cancelled the allotment. The company went to court against MIDC but the decision has come in our favour.
Bhakre further informed that the land is allocated at rate of Rs 25 per square meter.

About MI-17

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha. It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
