Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. What remained was a blackened debris all around - almost nothing to suggest a home once stood there. Nikesh earns his living as an agricultural labourer, like many in the village. A new marathi movie ‘Bhakar’ based on farmers suicide in Vidarbha region and birth of naxalism due to injustice with farmers will hit the theatres on May 23 across the state. Farmers suicide in Vidarbha region is decade long hot issue across the country and Director Vijay Pohankar have tried to register his anguish about the injustice through canvas.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Pohankar informed that the movie is focused on living patterns of farmers, wrong packages by government, natural imbalance, corruption in packages, politics and exploitation by businessmen.
The youth in Vidarbha are falling prey to outlaws owing to lack of employment opportunities here owing to non development. This explains the rise in Naxal activities in the region. And the trend is more among the sons of farmers who are joining Naxal rank to oppose the oppressive system. The movie will open eyes of politicians and so called system managers, claimed Pohankar. The movie is filmed at Buldhana, Amravati and Akola district. The movie will be released at all film festivals across the globe. Kishor Kadam, Nitin Bhajan, Ashutosh Bhakre, Jayesh Shewalkar, Sanjay Kulkarni, Purnima Wavhal are in main role of the movie. Chandrashekhar Pimpale and Nitin Bhajan were present at the press conference.
