By Dheeraj Fartode

A team of Detection Branch (DB) of Ajni police station came under fire after its members 'botched-up' a case where they failed to complete the paper work after nabbing three armed criminals. The criminals, according to information, were put behind bars, they spent the night in lock-up on Friday, and then they were let out by the DB Squad. This action of the DB squad personnel is now matter of investigation, it is further learnt.
According to information, two constables of DB Squad of the police station nabbed three criminals and recovered sharp edged weapons from their possession. The accused were taken to the police station for further inquiry. Then they were put in the lock-up of the police station for whole night for interrogation.
Sources informed that a Sub-Inspector level officer even interrogated the accused about weapons and their crime history. The accused were in an inebriated condition. Before shift change of duty officer, the accused were released without further registration of offence.
Sources informed that some relatives of the accused approached the police officer and urged them for release and it was promptly accepted. The trio were detained on Friday last and released on Saturday morning.
Second Police Inspector of the police station B P Salunke, who is in-charge of the police station as first PI is on leave, learnt about the irregularity. He called up DB squad of the police station on Monday morning and issued show cause notice to PSI and two members of DB squad.
PI Salunke confirmed the information and said that copy of the memo has been given to Additional Commissioner of Police (South region) Deepak Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Chandra Kishore Mina and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ajni) Thakur.
Allegations against the DB squad which was formed six months ago are not new. First allegation was raised before Diwali, when a chain snatcher Pradip Bondre, who had committed eight chain snatching was arrested. Sources informed that the chain snatcher had given names of four bullion traders of Nandanvan and Kotwali area. The DB Squad seized some stolen valuables from the bullion traders and they were called up at the police station. However no offence was registered against the bullion traders and later allegations surfaced against them. In the month of February, a gambling den started operations at Chimni Square and a hushed-up action by members of DB Squad has created flutter within police circles.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
