The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. An 18-year-old polytechnic students attempted to committ robbery at State Bank of India in Vaishali Nagar on Friday. He pocketed Rs 1.13 lakh from the bank and luck ran out as vigilant citizens caught and bashed him.
According to Pachpaoli police, the boy is student of Government Polytechnic College and also a photographer. He was in the need of Rs 10,000/-. As the there is very few customers in the banks, he decided to rob the bank near his house.
After doing recce of the bank, the entered at 11.45 pm with a sharp-weapon. He caught hold a sanitation worker Tushar Bawangade and threatened him with the sharp-weapon. He took the man near the cashier Sarika Jambulkar and also threatened her with the weapon. On his demand, the woman gave him Rs 1.13 lakh from the cash counter. When the youth went out from the bank, the staff alerted passersby who immediately caught him. He was handed-over to the police. An offence under Section 392 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Pachpaoli police.
