Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Countdown begin for DBA polls in Nagpur


As the countdown starts for ensuing polls of District Bar Association (DBA), aspiring candidates are busy fine tuning their strategies to ensure victory at the hustings. Election mood is setting-in at 'Nyay Mandir' as aspirants are busy warming-up to their professional colleagues for their support in the election scheduled to be held on December 9.

For the post of President, Advocates Roshan Bagde, Prakash Jaiswal, Pankaj Kothari, Madan Senad and Pramod Upadhyay are readying their candidature as per the talk in the district courts. The aspiring candidates revealed their agenda for the polls.

Adv Roshan Bagde

Adv Roshan Bagde said, "He is readying to contest as an independent candidate" and claimed his focus on streamlining sitting arrangements for the lawyers in the new ‘Nyay Mandir’ building, including for lawyers coming from rural courts. He has also chalked out plans to provide insurance cover to each member of the District Bar and also solve their problem and grievances in earnest.

Adv Prakash Jaiswal

Adv Prakash Jaiswal, in case elected, said, "He would restart classes for the budding lawyers for the examination held for JMFC and Government Pleaders." His agenda also included restarting the Justicia’ Event, a special card to DBA members to avail discounts at shops and hotels, better medical facilities at Nyay Mandir, better sitting arrangements for lawyers.

Adv  Pramod Upadhyay

Another independent candidate, Adv Pramod Upadhyay stressed on solving problems related to women lawyers and extending medical facilities at 'Nyay Mandir' for the members. A display board at 'Nyay Mandir' about matters in High Court, parking space, systematic classes for budding lawyers, maintaining hygienic condition, proper sitting arrangement are the salient features of his agenda.

Adv Madan Senad

Adv Madan Senad, an independent candidate, has focused on breaking commercialisation of DBA elections. He will fight the election with an agenda of preparation of budding lawyers for judicial exams, solving problems of lawyers and proper focus on the welfare of lawyers with transparency. He decided to make a committee of senior lawyers to guide him for the welfare of lawyers.

Adv Pankaj Kothari

Adv Pankaj Kothari’s manifesto is focused on making a website of DBA and maintaining transparency in the Bar's work. Wi-fi facility for lawyers, one more first aid center, wheelchairs at each floor, more rooms for women lawyers, designated dining area for all lawyers, additional stationery shops at Nyay Mandir and maintaining hygiene of the premises are the highlights of his agenda.

There will be around three candidates to contest the polls for the post of Secretary at DBA. Advs Ashish Bide, Sachin Jaiswal and Manish Randive are likely to be in fray.

Vice-President (2 posts)

Seven advocates are likely to fight for the posts of Vice-President of the bar. Advs Sajjad Baig, Chandrashekhar Dhak, Mamta Shukla, Sunil Lacharwar, Usha Gujar, Ashish Nagpure and Shrikant Gaulkar are in consultation with supporters and could file their nomination papers.

Joint Secretary (2 posts)

Advs Sandeep Bawangade, Rushak Bawiskar, Vasudev Kapse, Ashish Kataria, Smita Choudhary, Aparna Jha, Dhiraj Pazare, Vishnu Pantawne and Manglesh Durugkar are likely to file their nomination papers for two posts of Joint Secretary at the Bar.

Advs Shrikant Gawande, Shrikant Wandare and Swapnil Dubewar could be locked in a triangular fight.

Library (1 post)

For a post of Library, Advs Savita Kamble, Manoj Mendhe, Pinky Jagtap and Umesh Akone are considering entering the election arena.

Advs Shrey Bangde, Vinod Bondade, Gurpreet Chandok, Anil Kaware, Shahezad Khan, Hemant Madankar, Rajesh Manmode, Sudeep Meshram, Naved Opai, Sanjay Pimple, Saurabh Podar, Raunak Ranka, Hitesh Rewatkar, Shahezad Sheikh, Ansh Singhania, Anant Wagh, Snehal Pakhide, Shrikant Yedlekar, Vikrant Bhoyar, Narendra Vaidhya, Jyoti Walde and Rabi Ghosh may be in the fray for nine posts of Executive Committee Member of the DBA.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G
