The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Dhantoli Police busted a racket involved in fake land deals by putting behind bars five persons, including two women, for swindling lakhs of rupees from several persons. Cops seized copies of bogus agreements, 7/12 records, sale-deeds, photo Identity cards, seals and other forged dpcuments from the possession of the acused persons.
Cops arrested accused, Shama Keshav Kumbhare (80), a resident of Untkhana, Dolly Joseph (30), a resident of Chandan Nagar (30), Nikhil Ramchandra Kale (27), a resident of Surendra Nagar, Shabbir Khan (31), a resident of Gittikhadan and one Ghanshyam Jagdishprasad Sharma, on the charges under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to Police, the accused persons approached Uttam alias Baba Jangluji Mendhe (35), a resident of 121, HB Estate Sonegaon and told him that they wanted to sell Plot No 59, Khasra No 13/1, Mouza Somalwada, at Guruchhaya Cooperative Society. Showing some forged documents, they told him that the plot belonged to Vasudha Shantilal Dakhne of Gondia. The accused persons then took Rs 8.44 lakh from Mendhe between September 30, 2012 and October 1, 2012, made agreement with Medhe towards the sale of the plot at Swaraj Party office, NIT Building. When Mendhe came to know that he was cheated, he lodged a complaint with the police. Investigations revealed that Vasudha Dakhne, a resident of Gondia, was the orginal owner of the plot. Shama Kumbhare impersonated as Vasudha Dakhne and signed the agreement. Dolly Joseph posed as Vasudha Dakhne’s daughter. Accused Nikhil Kale and Shabbir Khan alleged prepared the forged documents for the agreement.
Cops arrested all the five accused and obtained remand for their interrogation till October 5. Police investigations revealed that the accused persons duped several persons in many more such fake land deals.
