Entire Village Engulfed in Massive Fire in Nagpur distict, Residents Flee for Safety

A devastating fire reduced large parts of Dhamangaon village in Bhivapur tehsil of Nagpur district to ashes after flames spread rapidly from nearby agricultural land and engulfed homes within minutes. The fire forced villagers to flee in panic to save themselves. According to officials, the fire started when some villagers set dry agricultural waste on fire in nearby fields at around 6 pm. Due to strong winds, the flames quickly went out of control and began moving towards the village. Dhamangaon, which has many old houses made of wood and traditional materials, became highly vulnerable as the fire reached residential areas. Eyewitnesses said the situation worsened as night fell and electricity supply was disrupted which plunged the village into darkness. “There was fire everywhere and complete darkness. Zilla Parishad officials sits over cheques, leaves inter-caste couples in lurch


The casual approach of Social welfare department of Zilla Parishad has created trouble for newly-wed couples who tied nuptial knot against the wishes of their family. The financial assistance of Rs 39 lakh instituted by the Central government for Inter-caste married couples is yet to be given to 78 couples collectively Rs 39 lakh for 2010 by Zilla Parishad.
As per the information Union government has sanctioned Rs 50,000 financial assistance for 208 married couples in District. But, administration has not yet distributed the cheques to eligible couples. Validity of 39 cheques collectively Rs 39 lakh has lapsed on September 30 as they were prepared at the very beginning of current fiscal.
To promote inter-caste marriages, the award money has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000. When ZP committee members confronted Social Welfare officer about this serious lapse, the official concerned gave evasive reply and claimed that budgetary provision was inadequate.
According to sources, many valid cheques are still pending with the department. Sources claimed that members of committee are trying to arrange a grand ceremony for distribution of cheques but, as the code of conduct for Gram Panchayat election came into force, the date for ceremony is yet to be fixed.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers.
