A Village Burnt Overnight: Tears, Loss and Survival in Dhamangaon Blaze

  Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Three including two doctors arrested for black-marketing of Tocilizumab

After Remdesivir, black marteteers are indulged in the black-marketing of life saving drug Tocilizumab in Nagpur. A special team of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Vinita S trapped three black marketeers including two doctors on Wednesday. The police have seized a Tocilizumab injection worth Rs 40,600/- from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Sachin Ashok Gevrikar (20), Dr Vishesh alias Sonu Jeevanlal Bakat (26), both residents of Marartoli and Dr Ramfal Vaishya (24), a resident of Bhagirathi Apartment, Narendra Nagar.
According to police, Sachin is a BA student. His mother was tested positive for Covid-19. He had an injection of Tocilizumab. DCP Vinita received a tip-off that Sachin was trying to sell the injection at Rs one lakh to a person with the help of the doctors.
A special team of DCP Vinita laid a trap and arrested Sachin with the injection. The doctors were arrested after the accused revealed their names during questioning.
An offence under Sections 420, 188, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 26 Drugs Prices Control Order 2013 and 18 (b), 27 of Drugs and Cosmetic Act was registered against them. The police produced the accused in the court and obtained their police custody till May 28.
The arrest was made by PSI Kunal Dhurat and staff including Ramdas Narekar, Ashish Wankhede, Santosh Shendre and others.
