A seven-month-old baby was mercilessly beaten by her mother while fighting with her mother-in-law at her house in Pandharabodi area. The incident came to fore when the video of the incident went viral on social media. Ambazari police have booked the mother under provisions of Juveniles Justice Act and Indian Penal Code.
Sr. Police Inspector Narendra Hiwre of Ambazari Police Station informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the information was given to the Child Welfare Officer and Child Helpline to look into the matter. The video was shot on May 24. A woman was seen thrashing her son during a verbal duel with her mother-in-law. The video was shot by a relative who had forwarded it to his contacts. Later, the clip went viral on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.After seeing the video, residents of the Pandharabodi area alerted Ambazari police. PI Hiwre and his team visited the house and called his father to the police station with the child. The police sent the child for medical check-up to the hospital. After examination, the doctors found no injuries on the body of the child. Mother of the child was also called to the police on Monday morning.
The parents were counselled by the police and later released. The information was given to the Child Welfare Department who are expected to meet the parents and further counsel them. The police have registered an offence under Sections 75 of Juvenile Justice Act and Section 323 of Indian Penal Code. PI Hiwre said that the child's father was a drummer. But due to lockdown and Covid restrictions, he is out of work. He was even unable to get another job due to the lockdown. The man's mother is working as a housemaid and earning Rs 2,000 per month which she was spending for the livelihood of the family
