Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. City Police’s Zone-IV: Highest detection rate in city, gory crime decreased, thefts are on rise

Zone - IV of Nagpur Police Commissionerate covers Imambada, Ajni, Sakkardara, Nandanvan and Hudkeshwar Police Stations. The Zone is notorious for body offences but still crime decreased in the Zone with 5.01 per cent while detection rate increased by three per cent in year 2016 which is maximum among all five Zones of Nagpur Police Commissionerate. Excluding thefts, hurts and molestation, the Zone showed decreasing trend in all important heads of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the statistics, the Zone recorded 1,931 crime cases in year 2016 as against 2,033 cases in year 2015 and 1,749 in year 2014. The Zone have detected 1,304 cases with detection rate of 68 per cent in year 2016. Detection rate of the Zone was 65 per cent in year 2015 and 56.66 per cent in year 2014.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ishu Sindhu was the in-charge of Zone till June 2016 and later G Shreedhar was the top cop of the Zone.
The Zone accounted for 19.86 per cent crime cases of Nagpur City in year 2016. The Zone witnessed substantial drop in cases of in murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, chain snatchings, robberies, burglaries, cheating, rape and death by negligence.
As far as preventive action is concerned, the Zone initiated 16 per cent more preventive action than the pervious year. The Zone initiated 2,127 preventive action including three MCOCA and 18 MPDA in year 2016 as against 1,835 in year 2015. 
Crime in Zone 4 of Nagpur city
Hudkeshwar police station topped the tally of crime in the Zone with 563 crime in year 2016 and 342 preventive action. Not a single MPDA proposal sent by the police station in year 2016 but have booked two gangs under stringent MCOCA Act. Imambada police station recorded minimum 184 crime cases with 342 preventive action. 
Twenty three murders were reported in the Zone with 100 per cent detection rate as against 27 in year 2015. Hudkeshwar police have recorded maximum six murders followed by five each in Sakkardara and Nandanvan, four in Imambada and three in Ajni. 
Attempt to murder and dacoity cases witnessed minimal increase. Out of four dacoities, three reported in Hudkeshwar and one at Nandanvan. Most important is substantial decrease in chain snatching and robberies across the Zone IV. The five police stations have recorded 27 chain snatching cases as against 51 in year 2015. The Ajni police recorded maximum 14 chain snatching in year 2016 as against only six in year 2015 while Hudkeshwar police, which had recorded 15 chain snatching in year 2015, have recorded only six chain snatching in year 2016. Nandanvan police was highest in chain snatching (19) cases in year 2015. The police stations officers have curbed the menace and brought down the figure to six in year 2016. 
The cops have brought down the figure of robberies and recorded only 30 robberies in year 2016 as against 56 in year 2015. 
However, the Zone witnessed growth in theft cases including that of vehicle thefts. In year 2015, the Zone registered 515 cases and the figure rose to 529 in year 2016 with 32 per cent detection rate. Hudkeshwar police station which covers outskirts area of the city have reported maximum 149 theft cases followed by 128 in Ajni, 103 in Sakkardara, 97 in Nandanvan and 52 in Imambada police station area. Vehicle thefts increased in the Zone by 8.25 per cent. Maximum vehicle thefts reported in the Hudkeshwar police station (79) with 11.39 per cent rise than the previous year. 
The crime statistics proved that the Zonal officers managed to put a check on soaring graph of crime with extensive preventive action. However, theft cases which are directly related to common man needs to be tackled in focused manner.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G
