Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. City Police’s Zone-II: Crime rate down and detection up but dacoities doubled

As per the statistics, the Zone has recorded 2,241 crime cases in year 2016 as against 2,341 cases in year 2015 and 2,218 in year 2014. The Zone has detected 1,288 cases with detection rate of 57.47 per cent in year 2016. Detection rate of the Zone was 53.65 per cent in year 2015 and 52.16 per cent in year 2014.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sanjay Latkar and DCP Rakesh Kalasagar were in-charge of the Zone in year 2016.
The Zone accounted for 23.05 per cent crime cases of Nagpur City in year 2016. The Zone witnessed substantial surge in cases of attempt to murder, dacoities, hurts, rape and death by negligence (304 A) while showing a decline in cases of murder, chain snatching, burglary, thefts, vehicle thefts, and molestation cases. 
The Zone initiated 1,585 preventive action including five MCOCA and three MPDA in year 2016 as against 1,171 in year 2015. Extensive preventive action particularly in Gittikhadan Police Station helped the Zonal officials to brought down overall crime figures.  For instance, the Gittikhadan police station recorded highest 342 preventive action and registered decrease in crime by 30.37 per cent. However, Sitabuldi police station have initiated only 291 preventive action which ultimately resulted into increase in crime and 585 crime case recorded.

Nine murder cases of 10 reported were detected by the police. Ambazari police station have topped the murder chart with four murders, followed by two in Gittikhadan and one each at Sitabuldi, Dhantoli, Sadar and Mankapur police station area. A murder of a toddler, whose a leg and a hand were chopped off by the accused was not detected by the Ambazari police due lack of initial evidence. 
The Zone have recorded nine dacoities which are highest across the five zones of the city. Of them, Sitabuldi police station have registered four dacoities and Gittikhadan police station registered two dacoities. The Zone also accounted for registering maximum chain snatching and robberies in the commissionerate with 35 chain snatching and 62 robberies in year 2016. Again Ambazari police station topped the tally of chain snatching with 13 cases in a year while Sitabuldi police station registered 27 robberies accounting for 43.54 per cent robberies of the Zone. 
The Zone also reported maximum theft cases -- 845 -- theft cases across the city with 29.82 per cent detection rate. Sitabuldi police station registered maximum thefts -- 267 (including maximum motor vehicle thefts -- 119) -- not only in the Zone but also in the city. Sitabuldi police station of the Zone has recorded maximum crime -- 585 -- while newly formed Mankapur police station reported only 223 crime in the year.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
