The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. to only pizza delivery, but next time you jump the red signal or drove the
vehicle without helmet or car belt, exceed stipulated speed, the cops will
ensure home delivery of challan with proof of violation.
Generally the traffic rules are followed only in breach in the second capital of Maharashtra. But this is going to be a thing of past very soon. Now, violators cannot escape the alert eyes cops at Nagpur who have deployed technology to catch the violators following Mumbai Traffic Police which has effectively used the electronic surveillance method to nab the violators, create a data base and issue challan while avoiding direct interaction with the violator.
Traffic Control Branch of Nagpur Police too has adopted the novel technique of using CCTV’s installed in prominent location to enforce compulsory helmet norm for the two wheeler riders. This is the modest beginning and gradually we will enlarge the scope to cover all violations, a senior officer stated. This is part of modern policing which is being implemented across Maharashtra by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who also holds Home portfolio.
Now, traffic police simply capture the two wheeler riders without wearing helmet in their mobile handsets and after tracing the registration number using integrated software provides information from the RTO, the challans are sent to their registered address. This method was adopted to end friction between cops and citizens which was increasing day by day and became a major headache for law enforcement agency. Also, now the allegations of traffic police letting off violators after pocketing money too will come to an end.
The new strategy of traffic police is bearing fruits and without any altercation with any bike rider, the cops have issued whopping 9,006 challans in a month. The cops are implementing the drive in full swing.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Traffic) Smartna Patil said, the challan system is saving precious time of cops. It takes only 10 seconds to capture a picture. Later, the cops submit the pictures at concern Traffic Control Branch and the challan is generated. After noting reason for the challan, traffic branch issues computer generated challan and sends it to the biker. He can pay the challan at Traffic Control Branch or in the court, said DCP Patil.
In last 40 days, the pilot project was implemented in Nagpur and according to officials, South traffic branch have slapped such challans to 2505 offenders. Indora Traffic Control Branch have issued 1977 challans followed by 1585 by Traffic East, 1366 by Traffic MIDC, 1086 and 488 by Traffic North and Traffic West Branch respectively. DCP Patil further informed that the challan system would work more effectively once installation of CCTV cameras is completed across the city. The CCTV would capture images of the offender and send automatically to Traffic Control Branch in real time to issue Challan. It will ease workload of traffic cops, DCP Patil added. This force, then can be actually used to regulate traffic, which is their real job.
