It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Suspecting fidelity, a man attempt to murder wife by strangling her at their house in Pipala village in Hudkeshwar Police Station area on Monday. The accused has been identified as Prashant Shriram Waghe, a resident of Pipala village and a Star Bus driver. According to police, Prashant was suspecting fidelity of his wife Rupali and the couple used to pick up quarrel over petty issues. On Monday, Rupali attended a Haldi prgoramme despite Prashant’s consent. When Rupali arrived home, Prashant picked a quarrel with her and strangled her. However, Rupali managed to escape from his clutches. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
