It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A defective water cooler claimed life of a five-year-old girl at Bhandewadi area of Kalamna Police Station on Saturday. Mother of the girl had gone to job and she along with a brother and sister were in the house, said the police.
Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) N T Gosawi said that the girl -- Khushi Manoj Kose (5) -- came in contact with the defective water cooler when she opened door of refrigerator for water bottle. She suffered electric shock and collapsed. Her brother and sister informed neighbors about the incident. The neighbors rushed her to hospital and doctors declared her dead.
PSI Gosawi informed that the mother had gone to office when the incident occurred. The family was living in rented house. Kalamna police have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.
