IGP Chandra Kishore Mina By Dheeraj Fartode Chandra Kishore Mina, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Currently serving as Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Mina has held several important positions in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. While serving as ASP in Gadchiroli, Mina led a successful anti-Naxal operation in 2009, which resulted in the Petha encounter, weakening the Naxal movement. This operation earned him the DG Insignia. As SP in Akola and Nanded, Mina used innovative methods to maintain communal harmony and resolve tensions effectively. He uncovered a state-wide kidney transplant racket in Akola and, as DCP in Nagpur, dismantled organized crime syndicates through MCOCA and MPDA cases. Six sustain burn injuries after cylinder explosion

Six persons including two children sustained grievous burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Gausiya Colony in Bada Tajbagh area of Sakkardara Police Station on Friday evening. The injured persons are identified as Shakil Sheikh (35) his wife Sabina (25), their children Sajid (3), Albiya (5) and Shakil’s friends Ashfak Sheikh (40) and Asif Sheikh (32).

According to police, Shakil was a scrap dealer and living in rented accommodation of Mujaffar Ali. A wielding gas cylinder was stored by the Shakil in the home. When Sabina was preparing food on LPG stove, the wielding gas cylinder exploded. The six persons sustained burn injuries after the explosion. The injured persons were transported to hospital. A fire tender of Fire and Emergency services of NMC was pressed into service to control the fire. Huge nnumbersof onlookers were gathered at the spot after the incident.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha.
