The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Six persons including two children sustained grievous burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Gausiya Colony in Bada Tajbagh area of Sakkardara Police Station on Friday evening. The injured persons are identified as Shakil Sheikh (35) his wife Sabina (25), their children Sajid (3), Albiya (5) and Shakil’s friends Ashfak Sheikh (40) and Asif Sheikh (32).
According to police, Shakil was a scrap dealer and living in rented accommodation of Mujaffar Ali. A wielding gas cylinder was stored by the Shakil in the home. When Sabina was preparing food on LPG stove, the wielding gas cylinder exploded. The six persons sustained burn injuries after the explosion. The injured persons were transported to hospital. A fire tender of Fire and Emergency services of NMC was pressed into service to control the fire. Huge nnumbersof onlookers were gathered at the spot after the incident.
