28 firearms, 862 NDPS Cases, Rs 7.7 Crore; Seized: Rural Police crack down hard in 2025

With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities.  Large-scale operations against crime and unlawful businesses led to seizures worth Rs 7.7 crore by the police during the year. Preventive action against  1,496  According to official records, preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS increased sharply from 569 cases in 2024 to 1,496 cases in 2025 which marked a 163 per cent rise. Preventive actions under Section 129 BNSS also increased from 1,644 cases to 1,965 cases. Violations of preventive bonds rose from 85 cases in 2024 to 201 cases in 2025, and fines recovered through courts jumped from Rs 11,600 to Rs 23,66,200. Six sustain burn injuries after cylinder explosion

Six persons including two children sustained grievous burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Gausiya Colony in Bada Tajbagh area of Sakkardara Police Station on Friday evening. The injured persons are identified as Shakil Sheikh (35) his wife Sabina (25), their children Sajid (3), Albiya (5) and Shakil’s friends Ashfak Sheikh (40) and Asif Sheikh (32).

According to police, Shakil was a scrap dealer and living in rented accommodation of Mujaffar Ali. A wielding gas cylinder was stored by the Shakil in the home. When Sabina was preparing food on LPG stove, the wielding gas cylinder exploded. The six persons sustained burn injuries after the explosion. The injured persons were transported to hospital. A fire tender of Fire and Emergency services of NMC was pressed into service to control the fire. Huge nnumbersof onlookers were gathered at the spot after the incident.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
