AI Joins the Force: Maharashtra Police Deploys ‘Crime-OS’ for Smarter Investigations

It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Crime Branch arrest two for robbing an Amravati Professor

Sleuths of Crime Branch arrested two persons involved in dacoity case. The accused along with four others including a girl looted an Amravati resident professor of gold ornaments and cash collectively worth Rs 1 lakh on June 8 in Jaripatka area. The arrested accused are identified as Ashish Mohan Panchabhai (29) and Amol Anand Ingale (23), both are residents of New Yerekheda, New Kamptee while absconding accused are -- Tanvir Hussain (25), Sheikh Akram Sheikh Sadiq (26), both are resident of a resident of New Yerekheda, New Kamptee; Alim alias Akbar Kalim Sheikh (35),  a resident of Taj Nagar, Mankapur and Kajal Shahu (23).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime, Sambhaji Kadam informed that after arriving at Nagpur, Tripathi forgot road of Ayodhya Nagar and drove towards Teka Naka area where he met Tanvir and Kajal who told him that they were also going to Ayodhya Nagar. The couple boarded in the car and took Tripathi to a room in Jaripatka area where other accused kicked and punched Tripathi and threatened him for life by showing sharp-edged weapon. 
When Tripathi surrendered all his belongings including gold chain worth Rs 20,000, Debit card, the accused fled the spot. The dacoits withdrawn Rs 40,000 cash from an ATM using Tripathi’s Debit card. 
As the room was rented by the Tanvir, the cops established identity of the accused and arrested Panchabhai and Ingale. However, a section of police officers does not believe story of the complainant. “The complaint arrived in the city to meet the girl and later robbed by her accomplices. It was planned dacoity and such gangs are active in the city and robbing citizens,” said a police officer. The girl first befriend with a ‘target’ on social networking site and later ask him to come to meet her at pre-decided spot. 
The accused have been booked under Sections 395 and 342 of Indian Penal Code. Under the supervision of DCP Kadam and ACP Somnath Waghchaure, the arrest was made by API V A Saggne and staff including Rajesh Yadav, Namdeo, Ritesh, Ravi, Arun, Devendra, Harish, Naved, APIs Vishal Mane, Prashant Bharte, Rahul and Harish.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. Nimz at Kuhi: MIDC approves for phase I

The HQ has sanctioned the identified land for acquisition and is waiting for approval of State’s industries ministry By Dheeraj Fartode Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Head Quarter has given approval for land acquisition of 3816 acres land in Kuhi and Umrer tehsils for the proposed National Infrastructure Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ). It has submitted a proposal in this connection recently to the Industry Ministry. MIDC, Nagpur region, has also geared up for land acquisition for the second phase and identified 2316 acres of land situated nearby phase one. Now, MIDC is waiting for no objection certificates (NOC) from forest, mining and town planning departments for the second phase.
